View Full Version : Building Upper Arm Strenth

:help:My Arms can not do more then 2 pushups:-/I would love to be able to lift more considering someone needs to help me moves 5-10 gallon fish tanks around to do it easily:-/I need exercises for my arms that will not strain them to much in one exercise but over a certain period of time they will really begin to see improvements. Any methods?

You use your arms as a secondary muscle group when doing push-ups (unless you're doing tricep ones), as you're working primarily your chest, which is possibly where you're more weak?

Maybe do some tricep dips, press-ups (i think they're called), lat pull-down if you have access to a gym and also want to strengthen your back and squats whilst raising your arms with dumbbells (sorry I don't know the correct term). There are heaps of arm exercises my trainer has me doing and I honestly couldn't tell you the names. I'm sure others on here will have more suggestions though.

You can always buy a couple of 5 or 10 lbs weights at any sports store and do some regular workout every now and then according to your needs. Though you will need to find some routines in the internet or someone you know will make you a program assuming you don't know squat about exercise: D

here's two mathematical formulae one shouldn't forget

GREAT Strength and Muscle gain = nutritious hi calorie diet + 8 hours sleep per night + Important Exercises

Important Exercises = {Squats, Deadlifts, Lunges, Bench Press, Bicep Curls, Pushups}

Squats and Deadlifts, despite being dangerous if not careful, are the most productive exercises. They boost testosterone and HGH to a level which causes what's called a spill over effect. this is where almost every muscle in the body gains in strength and size.

Press ups with your knees on the floor a good way to start. Less weight and less leverage makes it easier on your arms.
Pyramids are another good technique for any exercise.
Do one, pause, do two, pause, do one.
Next time, do 1 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 1 and so on.

If you live near a park or school with monkey bars, just climb up and hang from the bar for as long as possible. You will be surprised at the strength you can gain from that.

I've read lots of places how important it is to get 8 or even 9 or 10 hours sleep a night!

All I can say is that just isn't true in my experience. I used to get up regularly at 05.45 to work out, I don't know how much sleep I got but it was rarely 8 hours a night!

I just think you need enough so you're not tired. Its more about the exercises and dedication, eating right etc.

For moving fish tanks it sounds like you have a weak back.
Back Exercises
Barbell or Dumbell Row (upperback)
Straight legged Deadlifts, Romanian Deadlifts (lower bak)

Best Strength Training Exercises
Full Squat
Deadlift
Overhead Press variation
Power Clean
Weighted Pull-ups or Chin-ups
Weighted Parallel Bar Dips

I just think you need enough so you're not tired. Its more about the exercises and dedication, eating right etc.


well it's really based on the average endomorph male. Each individual can be different. Some people can recover in 6 hours of sleep. Me personally, if i don't have my 8 hours of sleep, my next workout will go down in performance.

If you do nothing at all do the pushups it works almost every muscle in the upper body.

Pushups
Pullups
Dips with Chair

:) :pibo:Vertical pushing/Overhead pressing works the triceps, stabilizing muscles in the lower, middle, and upper back and works more heads of the deltiods than push-ups. It's not my opinion its a fact.

You haven't listed almost every muscle group that push-ups work to back up your claim.

You haven't listed almost every muscle group that push-ups work to back up your claim.You didn't answer the question. List almost every muscle group in the upper body that push-ups work. Use your textbook if you need to cheat.
