Are any of the upscale restaurants in Chicago (actually in the city) veg-friendly?
I'll be there in December, and my family & boyfriend will be there. My dad is into fine dining and I don't want to get stuck with something expensive and unsatisfying...

I've never been to Charlie Trotter's, but here are reviews from some who have...

most chefs in nicer restaurants will gladly cater to a veg. they can think outside the box to create a meal that caters to your dietary preference. alls ya have to do is ask!

yeah. my dad likes fancy restaurants, and i have to say, they are always vegan friendly in my experience (which is strictly in the united states). i have never had a waiter or chef so much as flinch when i ask for a vegan meal. although it helps to call ahead and be sure.

Opera is very delish, and has a separate vegan menu. I've only been there just once, but it seemed very friendly to both omnis and veg heads.
Karen's Cooked and Blind Faith (in Evanston), are two of my favorites, and are moderately fancy. Blind Faith gets dressed up a bit in the evenings.
There's also the Green Zebra http://www.greenzebrachicago.com. I've never been, but have heard only good things about it.

Thanks guys, I'm still looking around. Opera doesn't look bad at all, I've seen their menu
My dad wants to go to a place called Fogo de Chao where they bring you meat on a stick continuously... :spew:

They actually have one of the best salad bars I have ever seen.
