Hello everyone!
I was directed here from another forum - as I had mentioned that being vegan and living in Oklahoma was kind of sad and lonley sometimes. I'm so happy to see some Oklahoma veg's here! I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully meet some people who don't have to ask me where I get my protein :-)
My name is Brook and I have lived in Norman for 8 years. I worked as a researcher for several years at OU but decided to recently go back to school. I've been vegetarian for 8 years and vegan for 2. My husband is a vegetarian and we have 4 kitties! What else? I like to read, cook and exercise...besides that I just wanted to say hi!!

Hi Brook! I'm also a Norman vegan :D
I've been in Norman for 14 years and love it here. I actually work at OU. :)
Maybe you can come meet up with us sometime. We just met this past Saturday and are talking about a December meetup (or meetups).
Welcome to VB!

Cool! A Dec meetup sounds fun! If I'm in town or not working I'm down for it. Lived in Norman for 14 years, huh? I'd love to compare notes as to where you eat out at and other vegan-y things.

Absolutely! Where all have you been? There's quite a few places, if you like ethnic food.

Hi Brook! It's great to meet you! I am another Norman vegan, and wanted to say hello. You should definitely meet up with us sometime. If you like Thai food, there are some great places here, a great Indian restaurant, and other places scattered here and there.

Let's see...in Norman I usually eat at Pepe's, Sooner Pho, Misal, Sweet Basil...there are a few others (I LOOOVE Thai food)...but those are the places that I'm fairly certain I'm getting a vegan meal (even if I have to request it). I used to eat at the Earth a bit...but I can make most of the stuff they have for less money. We don't eat in the city too often, mostly due to gas costs. Where do you guys eat at?

*waves* We've (Cynic 2.0 and I) have only lived in Norman for a little over a year, but the veg*ns here have been wonderfully helpful and supportive. Such a great group we have...
I'm going to beat Brandon and tell you to go on over to Himalayas for Indian food. :P Sorry, Brandon! It's the best Indian in town, IMHO. Man, now I need to go there again -- I'm drooling just thinking of the chana masala!
Oh, and I'm a grad student at OU. :P

I know you’re pain!! I live in Texas and I think veg. across the world know what is like to constantly be asked where do you get your protein.

Himalayas is YUMMY! We live right down the street from it and it is sooo tempting. They have some sort of carrot dessert dish - don't know the name for it, but oh my!
Starwitch - what dept are you in? I was a grad student in both the Psych dept and Anthro dept...

You pretty much covered where I like to eat.
I like Tarahumara too, though they pretty much have 1-2 options. The enchiladas verdes minus cheese or spinach enchiladas minus cheese, orsub green sauce are vegan. Refried beans are safe. Not 100% about the rice so I just get double beans.
You're the first I've seen that's been to Sooner Pho. Pretty good?

I am there every chance I get. :) I wasn't sure if the carrot dessert stuff had butter in it or not.
Definitely my favorite favorite in Norman.
I work in Modern Languages. Not that it pertains to Psych, Anthro or Astronomy (where Starwitch is)

I'm in the Physics dept.; as Brandon stated, I'm an astronomer.
We like BJ's a lot, though the vegan choices are very limited. Very yummy beer, though!

^^ My bad.
My experience with BJ's was not too good. I would be willing to try again if that's where everyone else wanted.

Yeah - I had a bad BJ's experience too. If I was a big beer drinker it would be great though. Yeah, the carrot stuff has butter in it, I bet! If only they could sub Earth Balance ;-)

I don't know that for sure, I'm just guessing from the taste and from the leftover color on the plate after eating it.
They really need to serve the sambar soup a lot more often.
It's still my favorite thing there, and that's saying a lot.

Hello, SFV!
Where do you . . . oh, [expletive]! Mary beat me to the lame joke. [Expletive]! Good to have more vegs and cat lovers around (we're living with five at the moment, though two are only visiting).
Welcome and such! Think of things to stick in my eye.

Now Jason, you might as well just say you have 5 cats. From what you said the other night at dinner, I highly doubt that you will be able to depart with the other 2. :P

Well, it's true that the boys have grown on me. For instance, whenever I put "Wash" on the floor he climbs up my leg to get back near my face. He just did that fifteen minutes ago, but, unfortunately, I was wearing shorts. I don't know how long it will take the welts to go away.

Yea for households where there are more kitties than people! We have 4 - ages 1 -7, they are a handful :-)

Actually, Wash is going to my sister, to be with Zoe. :P "Gollum", on the other hand, still needs a home. We're hauling the crew up to MN next week and will hopefully find a home for him there. I wish we could keep him! Then we'd match SFV in number of cats.
And you don't really need to think of things to stick in my husbands eyes... he's very good at doing that himself! :shifty:
