So there was a question (from a "vegan") on Yahoo Answer's about why people assume someone cares about animals just because they are a vegan.
I then pointed them to the Vegan Society's definition of vegan:
A vegan is someone who tries to live without exploiting animals, for the benefit of animals, people and the planet. Vegans eat a plant-based diet, with nothing coming from animals - no meat, milk, eggs or honey, for example. A vegan lifestyle also avoids leather, wool, silk and other animal products for clothing or any other purpose.
That did not go well. :wall::wall:
In conclusion, Yahoo Answers seems to be full of morons and I would not suggest going there unless you enjoy pulling your own hair out.

I wouldnt say a site is 'full of morons' just because of your experience with one person.

I wouldn't either, but half of the people posting there are trolls, half of the "vegetarians" eat fish and half of the vegetarians want to know what will happen if they eat meat after having been a vegetarian for a while.
I wasn't basing that statement on that one experience, but I guess I should have said that originally.

True. Sometimes I do get a good chuckle.
But you do get a few gems who are helpful :)

I was thinking about it, but I think that might cause a lot more trolls to visit.

Yeah, possibly. I've posted the link a few times when I felt it was appropriate. I doubt it'd be anything more than we can handle. It's unfortunate people look for help there when they'd be much better off seeking it from a forum like this one.

I could advertise a little bit there if you want me to. :)

I always suggest VB when I'm on another website and someone asks veg questions. I don't know what I would've done without this place when I went veg. I found it the first day, lurked for two, joined the second day and it helped me through SO much!!

I think that'd be great. I try to only do it when I feel it can actually help someone. I try to answer their question and then link to a post here. That way it doesn't come off as spam.

Yahoo Answers is sometime entertaining to read, but completely brain-dissolving to participate in.

I find that Yahoo Answers is actually a good place to ask questions if you can't find the answer using google. Just be aware that you'll get some pretty dumb answers, but someone is bound to know the correct answer to just about anything you could ask.

That place can be so frustrating. I think it's probably because of all the 13 y/o running rampant (no offense to our VB teens. you guys are obviously more sophisticated!).

Yahoo Answers = full of idiots BUT, like some have said, there is usually one or two people with something worthwhile to say. I've actually found some helpful answers on there and the really stupid responses (while totally frustrating) can be pretty funny. I enjoy laughing at others stupidity.

hahah although most people who are vegans/vegetarians do it for the animals believe it or not there are some who are for other reasons. Some do it for health reasons, some do it for religious reasons, and some for the enviornment. Sorry the crowd mauled you over it though.

I agree with people who say that they are idiots, I never go there anymore because their stupidy grosses me out.
And those avatars they use look stupid too.

I only started posting here as I became so irritated with yahoo answers. I never realised I could be abused so much just for being vegan. And I never understood why meat eaters would waste their time answering in the veg*n section. That said though, I did give a girl some advice once that sent her to the doctor and she ended up getting an operation. It does feel good to help someone out.

Well, the vegan society definition does include animals, people and the planet. So I think this means it includes the environment, and maybe health if you have a loose definition of people.
But I do have a vegetarian friend who insists vegetarianism is simply a diet and doesn't like that people assume he cares about animals. It's odd to me, but he and I already have very different lives.
And Yahoo Answers is teeming with morons! http://www.slate.com/id/2179393/

Well I was on yahoo answers in the vegetarian/vegan section getting increasingly fustrated by all the trolls and fish eaters, and someone posted a link to vb in response to a question I read.
After reading the answer I thought I would give this site a try.... so you never know, it does help!
