Not really a question of how to approach it... just a random talking aloud.
I have been nice and made a turkey my in-laws purchased, for Thanksgiving, the last few years. I don't think I can do it again. It stinks. Takes over my fridge, drips nasty juice on my fridge... Smells like death, and that's not the smell I want in my kitchen while I cook other food for myself.
I'm happy to host, I don't even mind if they bring over something already cooked that is meaty. Bring that spiral cut ham they want. But I'm NOT going to cook the turkey this year.
Now I have to break it to them. This will be fun.

Good for you!
Your kitchen, your rules.

I also say "good for you." You've been extremely accommodating in doing this for them, and they really shouldn't expect you to. They should be grateful for your efforts in the past and deal with it on their own in the future.

I agree, good for you! I don't cook a turkey but my fiance will buy a honey baked ham or something if he wants meat.

I would tell them that you'll be using the oven for other dishes and it would be really nice if they could take over the turkey this year. And then explain how it grosses you out, takes over your kitchen, etc. I think as long as you make it sound like it's not the main reason you don't want to do it, they won't make that big a deal out of it.

Just be honest. "You know, I've been vegetarian for years, and cooking a turkey just doesn't sit well with me anymore. Besides, I can't taste it to see if it's seasoned correctly. If you would like to bring one already cooked, or perhaps a ham, that would be fine." They might even understand!

If they're already bringing a ham why in the world would they need a turkey anyway!!! lol
I think you should definitely break it to them because you shouldn't have to be uncomfortable in your own home!

Broke it to them, mostly as thought I don't have time or room in the oven for a turkey, and turns out my father in law is anti pork now, so no ham... if they want turkey, my mother in law said he will cook it at home and bring it when it's ready. Works for me!
