View Full Version : Is it normal to feel this bad at this time of the month?

I'm on my rag (sorry to be crass) and I feel pretty unwell. Yesterday was my first, and heaviest, day and I'm used to feeling bloated and less than 100% then but I still feel really anaemic and also kind of anxious and vague and lethargic. I had a short, light work-out this morning, thinking it'd make me feel better and it did for about half an hour afterwards but now I'm back to feeling just tired and kind of weepy.
I also had really bad pms for a week or so leading up. I tend to get over-sensitive around that time, but this was ten-fold. I was really disliking everything in my life, disliking myself and so irritable and negative towards everything. And I'm still a little in that rut.
I'm thinking of getting some blood tests, but am I overreacting and is it normal to have really crappy periods sometimes, or could it be linked to something else?

I am usually fine during my time of the month, but last week when I had it I felt horrible. Everything seemed to go wrong, I ended up yelling at someone who kept calling my phone demanding to speak to some Scott guy I have never heard of, and work was horrible. I felt depressed, and unhappy... Now I'm ok now though.
I know what you mean by weepyness too. I felt like just bawling my eyes out all last week anytime the smallest thing went wrong, and I never (almost anyhow) have probs during that time.
Hope you get to feeling better

I think it's normal to have months that are way worse than others. Some months, I hardly feel a symptom, but the next might have me vegging on the couch for two days (if I'm lucky enough to have it start in the weekend).
If the really bad symptoms keep up (Like I mean it feels this way for the next couple of cycles), then you might want to get checked.
Some women feel that bad every month and it's normal for them. It's when you're not used to it that it doesn't feel right at all. Maybe you're already stressed about something, or tired, and it made your symptoms worse.
Hope you feel better soon.

 I agree that some months are worse than others. Sometimes, I'll feel great all the way up to my period, but other times, I'll feel headachey, extra-bloated, ravenous, broken out, and like I seriously want to just GIVE UP. Then my period comes and I'll feel better.
I do like having my period, though. I call it my "princess-time," and I'm even known to say (when I'm pigging out and grumpy), "I'm totally princessing right now." It's a time for laying down with a good book or maybe an Oprah or Ellen show, a hot water bottle, and.... a brownie ;)
I think you should get a little iron supplement and start taking it now, then see how next month goes. I hope you feel better.

WoaH-- that's so weird. I chose the avatar with the hugs at the beginning, but the other avatar that comes after "the brownie." I did not put that there. Maybe it was just meant to be there. SOOOO weird!

My housemate saw me slouched on the couch in trackies, surrounded by chocolate, and joked that I should have a sign on my forehead that reads 'PMSing - F*ck Off'.
Anyway I've pretty much finished my period and am feeling a lot better. I bought an iron and a zinc supplement so we'll see how I am for next month!

I think it's normal. I usually have very light periods, with no PMS at all, and my mood hardly changes. But recently, I had a pretty rough period, and I was the craziest lady you would ever meet, crying one minute, biting peoples' heads off the other... it was bizarre! It's always a good idea to ask a doctor you trust about things like this, but I wouldn't be too worried if I were you. =]

This is off topic but why isn't there a men's health section?
