SEAL ACTION ALERT: SEA SHEPHERD TO TAKE VESSEL TO THE ICE IN 2004!
The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will be taking its ice-breaking Flagship, the R/V Farley Mowat, to the Canadian ice floes in the Spring of 2004 for a DIRECT ACTION INTERVENTION against the Canadian Seal hunt.
Captain Paul Watson and Sea Shepherd have traveled to the ice flows of Eastern Canada by sea and air multiple times in their 27 year history of combating the ruthless Canadian seal hunt.
Direct Action is the most effective way to stop the hunt and save the lives of countless seals. In 2003, I accompanied Captain Watson and Sea Shepherd to the ice, and this experience inspired me to start Harpseals.org and work with other seal activists on many photo journalism essays, stories, published articles, etc. Captain Watson also debated Canadian politicians on local and national radio and television, and continues to do so to this day... the battle and activism certainly didn't stop after we left the ice.
Nevertheless, over 307,000 seals were brutally slaughtered in 2003 as a result of Canada's aggressive new seal "culling" campaign. (One Million seals to be slaughtered in a 3 year period).
2004 promises to be different...
At this time, Harpseals.org is working with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society in helping to promote and recruit activists who want to get involved! This is going to be a truly live-saving campaign for the seals.
THERE ARE 3 GENERAL TYPES OF ACTIVISTS NEEDED TO HELP OUT WITH THIS 2004 CAMPAIGN:
1) Those who are ready, willing and able for DIRECT INTERVENTION of the Seal Kill. This hardy group of individuals will travel to ice flows as volunteer crew aboard the Sea Shepherd Flagship, Farley Mowat, or via their own transportation. They will put themselves directly between the helpless seals and the ruthless sealers. To learn more about joining the Sea Shepherd crew, click here: Sea Shepherd/ volunteer
2) Those who can be perform day to day logistical operations.
This section comprises the largest group of warriors engaged in the campaign. Duties include spreading the word, helping with ground operations, writing protest letters, organizing boycotting campaigns, building websites, and otherwise inspiring publicity and public outcry in all manners possible.
3) Those who can help fund the campaign.
An absolute necessity and lifeblood of every large scale activist campaign and this one is no different. We implore all of those economically fortunate individuals out there to come to the table and help the Sea Shepherd with funding. The Flagship needs fuel, oil, provisions, etc. Go to the Sea Shepherd site to become a member or donate now.
