I want to plant some wheatgrass in a fairly large rectangular planter, probably 2 feet by 6 inches. So I want seeds and not just one of the kits you typically find at pet stores.

I can't seem to find them locally and the last place (who thought I was asking for "weed grass") told me I'd probably need to order them online. Does this look like what I'd need?

you can generally buy the berries at whole foods or maybe even smaller health food stores. are you growing it to juice? i found it difficult to keep mold off but they have products that can help with that. that site is where i got my stuff but i didnt like the jars--we used trays.

It's primarily for the cat (and because I like the way it looks). I've been told cat grass is just wheatgrass.

Sometimes its wheat, sometimes its barley, or a combination of the two, and you can use the raw wheat berries sold in bulk, or barley. I think the barley must be unhulled, though, or at least not "pearled", or it won't sprout. I've sprouted the bulk wheat berries sold at Whole Foods with no trouble. They sell rye, too, you could try that as well.

I get winter wheat berries from a healthfood store for my bird. They are inexpensive and full of nutrition. I just soak them in water, changing the water twice a day, until the grass it at the desired length. You can try putting them in soil but yeah, watch out for mould.
