I know there are a few handwashers around, so I thought I'd try asking here.

I've been using fels naptha to hand wash clothing. Mostly because that's the way my Great Aunt taught me. I noticed the store near my new home is carrying zote. If I used that it'd rule out an extra trip each month to the hardware store for soap.

How does it compare? It seems to be a bigger bar for the same price, but it felt softer which makes me think it wouldn't necessarily last any longer.

I like Zote, but then, I've never tried the other kind.

Thanks for the feedback. :) The only other thing I've heard is that the two seem to be used interchangeably in homemade laundry detergent. So perhaps it's worth a try.

Neither Fels Naptha nor Zote are vegan. Both contain sodium tallowate, which is basically pig or cow fat.

Well I'm not actually vegan so that's not really a consideration. But I'm curious as to where you got that information about fels naptha, since they were well known for never having released their ingredient list.

Call 1-800-424-9300, that's Dial Corp's Chemtrec number. It should be good 24/7.

That was actually an emergency line, and the only ingredients they could provide were ones possibly toxic.
