Now, that's not something that I generally think... but... I feel like I've been overeating recently trying to get enough nutrients. Some of you might have guessed from a previous thread but my fiance and I are thinking of trying for a kid (sheesh that's weird) and I want to get my body in good shape nutritionally before. I'm seeing a doctor tomorrow to get advice and a bloodcount and will be seeing a nutritionist as well, but I guess what I'm asking is did anyone else who started eating a certain way to prepare for a baby feel like they were eating too much? I want to lose a bit of weight before as well, not put more on... but I'm trying to make sure I'm getting enough of stuff! LOL And the other problem I've noticed is if I eat a bowl of veggies, (even cooked) I feel hungry pretty soon, even though I know I'm not, if that makes sense...

The only thing I know is that you have to pay attention to folic acid, make sure you get enough of that, and be very carefull with vitamin A.

A very high level of vitamin A can lead to birth defects. So be careful with supplements.

i always think the logic behind getting slim(mer) so that you can get pregnant and have a baby is weird. for 40 weeks you are going to have a little being inside you sucking every last vital nutrient it can out of you; longer, if you nurse. it only makes sense to eat well, but why limit portions?

the problem with overeating in preparation for pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after pregnancy is if you're consuming junky foods. i honestly don't think it's possible for a mother to overeat whole grains, vegetables, fresh fruit, beans, legumes, nuts and seeds.

As long as you're eating a variety of healthful foods whenever you're hungry you shouldn't have a problem. Although, it is very possible to gain too much weight eating even healthful foods. Too many calories consumed in relation to energy expended will cause weight gain regardless of the source of those calories. It's just easier to gain weight eating junk because junkfood is usually much more caloricly dense than more healthful food.

Eat a balance and you'll be safe. The only nutrients to be particularly conscious of are folic acid (easy to get an abundance of on a veg diet), omega 3s and calcium. Taking a precautionary multi vitamin supplement should cover you.

I suppose losing weight was the wrong way to put it... I'm trying to keep in shape leading up to it...

I'm eating healthy foods... it's just that becuase I'm eating so many veggies I don't generally feel hungry even when I think I should be... I feel full instead. And because I think skipping a meal is a bad idea I have dinner anyway... although last night I just ate a half portion...

I've found folic acid to not be a problem... calcium may be though. I want to avoid taking a supplement unless I am ordered to by the nutritionist! LOL

Do you drink fortified soymilk? That's a good source of calcium, also bulk up on those greens; kale, broccoli, chard. I gained the most weight in my first trimester, I think about 22 lbs. I agree with what's been said, as long as you're eating healthy, whole grains, veggies and fruits, you shouldn't stress too much. Congratulations, by the way. Have fun trying!

People who are overweight tend to have more problems with fertility.

Oooh, rabidchild, don't go there! LOL No, I'm certainly not overweight, just trying to get in shape. My doctor advised me to get as fit as possible (just saw her, she's had one child and is pregnant with no. 2)

punkmommy, yes, I do... I'm in love with vanilla soymilk at the moment. :) It's one of the processed foods I refuse to do without, especially as I am non-dairy. Chard... I don't think I've even seen chard in my life! What is it? But having lots of broccoli, bok choi, asparagus, kale (when I can get it) etc... Anyway, I had a bloodtest today to see how everything is so I'll wait till I get the results before stressing too much.

well. speaking from experience - i have 2 boys and a girl, when u do get pregnant, eat exactly what ur body tells u to. mother nature has a way of making sure the baby gets exactly what it needs so long as u listen to it.

i tried desperatly hard during my first pregnancy to not put too much weight on and ended up *very* anaemic. i was taking 4 iron tablets a day and sleeping at least 20 hours a day, was in a right state! ended up putting on a *lot* of weight. with my other 2, i ate whatever and whenever i liked, and put on relatively little.

i must have done something right, as i had 3 8lb babies and had to have c-sections to get them out as i'm 5ft!

just watch for warning signs.. doc with hand up inside checking for ripening of cervix, looks at nurse, sighs, then asks my shoe size... then books me in for a c-section...

lmao
