Want to make Halloween more meaningful? I did this as a kid! (and so did my sister). Collect money on Halloween for UNICEF, the United Nations International Childrens Fund. I think it's a dandy way to teach the value of giving (and not just the taking of candy) to one's kids. :bobo:
Here's the link to order boxes and the trick or treat for UNICEF kits. http://youth.unicefusa.org/trickortreat/trick-or-treat-for-unicef-box.html
If you're concerned that you may not get the boxes and materials in time for Halloween this year, just click on the "download materials" link on the left side of the page. You can download pdf files and print them out, and you don't have to use their special boxes, either. Any container will do, and you can print out their wrappers to put on the containers.
The Trick or Treat for UNICEF program has been around for 57 years, so they've got quite a successful thing going. I remember they even did a "very special episode" about it on the TV sitcom Bewitched.
