I originally posted a thread about anime almost a year ago, and there haven't been any since... so, I thought I'd resurrect it!
I've been obsessed with anime since I was about 6 or 7, when I watched Vampire Hunter D for the first time. I then bought all the anime vids I could find - including Akira, Heroic Legend of Arislan (I'm quite desperate to see this one again), Project A-Ko, the Lupin III films, My Neighbour Totoro, Fist of the North Star and heaps more. Today, I'm still as addicted to anime as I was as a kid. Recently, I've been watching a great deal of Naruto, .hack//SIGN, .hack//DUSK, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Full Moon wo Saga****e, Love Hina, Scrapped Princess and Wolf's Rain.
I also read loads of manga - I particularly like the Love Hina, Ranma 1/2 and Lupin III manga.
So, anime fans of veggie boards unite! What type of anime/manga do you like the best and what series/movies would you recommend?

Well, let's see... My hubby turned me on to anime several years ago and there has been no looking back. It started with Ranma 1/2 and then moved to things like Slayers and Escaflowne. I have to say that my favorite anime series is Rouroni Kenshin. And I don't mean the hyper edited, pc-ified version on Cartoon Network!
My Favorite Manga is the Mermaid Scar series, though my husband would be better to talk about manga. He reads them in the original Japanese. It is amazing how much they cut out when the bring it to the states.

I don't really read any manga, but anime....
one word....
Lain.
Okay, a few more words.
Fooly Cooly.
Cowboy Bebop.
I'm still pretty new to the genre and relying somewhat on Adult Swim to bring knowledge to me (though I found out about Lain through reading Megatokyo fan sites, oddly enough, and had to see it... and wow...)

Hahahaha XD Borealis, FOOLY COOLY?! I've only heard it called FLCL or Furi Kuri (original japanese), never have I ever met anyone who's called it Fooly Cooly! That sounds like something you'd do in the bedroom with a lover!
But uh, as for me, I go through spurts of anime fandom. Some months I love it, othermonths I'm indifferent- Over the years I've been really into Neon Genesis Evangelion, Onegai Sensei, Shoujo Kakemei Utena, Bishoujo Senshi Seramuun, FLCL and Inu Yasha (always subtitled- I'm too anal retentive to watch dubbed!), Love Hina, Spirited Away, Mononoke Hime, Kiki's delivery service (okay, that one I watched translated because it was on national tv), Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Serial Experiments Lain, Magic Knights Rayearth, Tenchi Muyo, Blood the Last vampire, Vampire hunter D, so on and so forth...I've seen more, but I can't remember them right now.
Recently I'm more into horror films- Asian and American! Ringu, Ring 2, Ju-on the Grudge (2003 remake), Battle Royale, The Eye, Uzumaki, etc.
:3 I'm an asian-entertainment FIEND! Music (Ayumi Hamasaki! Utada Hikaru! BoA!), movies, anime, manga, food- I love all of it!

Yeah, doesn't it? :naughty: But try Googling it. I got 11,100 hits.
Geek Library: FLCL (aka Fooly Cooly) (http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/supergeek/story/0,24330,3408196,00.html)
amazon.com, selling vol. 1 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005TPKX/qid=1062045225/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-4380000-8095046?v=glance&s=dvd&n=507846)
And it's what Adult Swim likes to call it, so *shrug* :)

If we're talking feature length, put me down for anything by Miyazaki. :wayne:

Hm... the only anime I really watch is Rurouni Kenshin (English subtitles, people, I hate dubbed versions of anything in a different language) because one of my friends obsesses over it. Other than that, I have a small stack of mangas I got at a bookstore for a dollar. I don't know much about anime/manga, though.

I like Neon Genisis best. Bubble Gum Tokyo Crisis 2040, Gasaraki, Gundam Wing, Cowboy Bebop and there's others. I recently taped the two Neon Genisis EvanGelion Movies they rock well Death and Rebirth was just telling you what happened in the old episodes and the ending of The End of Evangelion was confusing, did Oska die? and what was Iyanami doing there? and why did Shinji choke Oska? and if Oska was moving at the end who was it who died in the Eva Unit 2, a evil clone of Oska?
The animes I dislike are Yugioh, Pokemon (well not anymore), Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Z and BeyBlades and Digimon
Edit: Shinshan ROCKS! aswell.

That's what I call it, too, although I've seen/heard the other spellings. Kicks ass! My guru Ceryna has been helping me find good stuff. I'm watching Blue Gender now. Lain is awesome, too. Hell yeah.
This attachment is my new fridge decoration. My roommate thinks I'm a weirdo. Whatever. It's from the August Newtype USA mag.

wheeee! i love anime! I'll watch most any of it except DBZ and any hentai (though i have seen plenty of both.. ugh).
I especially love Oh! My Goddess and Sailormoon .. most everything else i've seen i've enjoyed as well .. i've seen so much yet at the same time there's so much out there that i haven't seen ..
I'm very much a sub fan myself. After having seen one too many bad dubs, i won't go anywhere near those anymore...

How could I have forgotten Ah, My Goddess! Proof positive that I'm losing it. For heavens sake I have Belldandy, Urd, and Skuld plushies!
Meo and ObsidianZebra- I'm with you on the subbed over the dubbed. My husband is such a purist that nothing is watched dubbed. At first I couldn't understand why, but then I watched Rurouni Kenshin dubbed from Cartoon Network and it became all too clear.
To get the full effect of any anime, you have to watch the subbed. So much expression is lost in dubbed versions.
Honestly, I couldn't stand Neon Genesis Evangelion. If you have to watch an anime with large suits of armor battling it out, check out Escaflowne. The story is so much more interesting and in my opinion, solid. To me, Evangelion was little more than a mish mosh of unrelated hallucinations brought on by food poisoning after watching "The Ten Commandments" one too many times. :spew:
