The cosmetics companies lost a class action lawsuit so there's going to be a makeup giveaway in January. You can sign up on the site and they'll email the exact dates and stores.

It looks like all of the major department store cosmetics brands are part of the lawsuit so I'm assuming at least some of the makeup being given away would be suitable for vegans.

Clarins is vegan and doesn't test on animals. This is what they say about it:
Clarins has always favored the use of natural ingredients of vegetal origin. On-going studies carried out on the activity and effectiveness of plants have enabled us to completely eliminate the use of all ingredients of animal origin. Today, while the choice is still possible between a synthetic ingredient and a plant with equivalent qualities, we always choose the plant. Several hundreds of plant species, from all over the world are used to create our products.

Here's what Chanel says about animal testing/ingredients:
CHANEL does not test on animals. CHANEL is a company that provides high-quality products as well as high-quality service. Be assured that CHANEL products are formulated with ingredients that are universally used by the cosmetic industry. All of our products are thoroughly tested for safety and must pass very stringent requirements. Some products do contain animal derivatives such as beeswax or lanolin. If you have concerns about a product's ingredients, please e-mail us with specific names of the products you are interested in and we will gladly report back.

Estee Lauder doesn't test on animals but they don't say anything about ingredients:
Does your company test on animals?
No. The Estée Lauder Companies Inc. is committed to the elimination of animal testing. We are equally committed to consumer health and safety, and bringing to market products that comply with applicable regulations in every country in which our products are sold.

It looks like L’Oréal doesn't test on animals but they use ingredients that have been tested on animals

I can't find any official information from Christian Dior
I can't find any info on Conopco, Inc except that they're owned by Unilever
I can't find any info on Guerlain
So it looks like if you want to partake in the freebees, Clarins is a safe bet. For all of the other brands, you need to do your homework.
