I just registered yesterday to run in the Race for the Cure 5k! :sunny:

According to the website, in 2006 more than 1.3 million people participated in more than 100 Races around the United States and in two foreign countries.

Seeing as how that's a lot of people, I thought maybe there'd be others here on VB who are participating. Anybody else running this year?

Good for you! I ran the Washington DC one which was in June. The energy of the crowd was great, very inspiring. But just to warn you, depending on where you are running it, it might turn out to be more of a walk than a run, at least the first one mile. The DC one is huge; they had more than 50,000 participants, runners and walkers. I would treat it more as a fun and charitable event, not a real race. I loved it though and am looking forward to next year's one.

I've noticed that about the beginnings of the last couple I've done. The gun goes off and I start trying to run and there's people just lollygagging all over. I'm like GO PEOPLE!!!

Time before last, there were several groups that just stood there and talked after the gun. I don't get that.

I run for fun, I don't stand a chance of keeping up with the people who can do it sub-15 minutes.

ETA: I'm running in Oklahoma City.

In case you weren't aware, but care about it, that charity funds animal research...

It was previously mentioned by IAJ, who has since deleted her post.

Thanks for re-mentioning it.

I'm still running, despite the fact.

I just ran the best race of my life this morning!!! I'm not sure what my finish time was because (strangely) there was no clock at the finish line.

I was someplace between 27 and 29 minutes, which is about par with my other races but what counts is I held pace the entire time and did not walk even one step.
I kicked out hard at the end and ran really well.

This was a really fun event, with a great course. There were bands and music playing about every 2 blocks and in between the music there were groups of people singing, chanting and cheering for the runners.
My absolute favorite part was the pipe and drum band that was playing about 2 blocks into the beginning of the race. It was positively beautiful and inspiring!

Just thought I'd follow up on this thread.

Well done! It takes me like 40 mins to 'run' 5k, I tend to stop and walk at least 3 times.
