View Full Version : Sydney: Cruelty Free Festival
60 stalls of food, wine and cruelty free products. 2 stages of live entertainment, cooking demos and kids' entertainment
Free entry, 100% vegan
10am-5pm Sunday 2nd November 2008
Belmore Park, Hay St, Haymarket (next to Central Station, across Eddy Avenue)

I'll be there ... I might bake cupcakes and cookies to donate for the stall depending on my uni schedule. Should be a good day, a good chance to show Sydney that being vegan doesn't mean having pale skin and eating chickpeas! :nana:

ahh so looking forward to it and hope I can help out in some way. Regardless, it's going to be great, will be nice to have a more spacious location and I'm keen to see what Heartbreak Club are like live.
There's nothing quite like not needing to read ingredients lists.

I've seen The Black Stars a few times, they aren't bad! I find non-purpose built outdoor concerts are generally pretty average though ... poor acoustics etc.

I'd love to fly over for this but it clashes with another event for me - same thing happened last year :brood:
Oh, excellent. I'll definitely go. I might even bring some friends along.

I hope there's still plenty of dogs around. Inner city, could decrease the numbers...sitting next to a dog during Jeffrey Masson's talk last year was honestly one of the highlights for me. Love them! It'd be alright to bump into some of you other veg*ns as well I guess :p

Wow... I would love to go to an event like this...
You lucky Aussies!

It will be interesting to see if it is as good as it sounds. They don't seem to have a lot of stallholders yet, mostly the usual suspects. It would be upsetting if there were a lot of empty stalls or if the festival was small, it wouldn't work in a promotional manner!
I'm going to volunteer to do some letterboxing though. Might be able to get some of the inner westies (middle class types) to the event!
Our local temple has a vegetarian food fair each year at around new years. Last year I went it was packed out. It goes for a few days. Being new year's they have quite a few other events at the same time but the food fair is always popular.

It does seem like vegetarianism/veganism are becoming more popular, most people I work with have committed to reducing their meat intake to once or twice a week. Even though they haven't gone the whole way, it shows they are thinking about it.

Hello newbie!! :D :pibo:
I didn't go to the festival last year at Petersham because I thought I'd get lost getting there
I'm really excited about the festival this Sunday too, I've never felt so excited in my life, I think! ;) hehe.

Hello Lisa :hi:
I totally understand what you mean about getting lost hehe. Luckily i had a friend to come with me (getting lost is alot less traumatising when you have somebody to get lost with! :p) but it wasnt too bad finding the place (thank goodness).
I really hope there is going to be a cheezly stall again this year. Have you tried any of the cheezly vegan cheeses? Absolutely incredible! The only soy cheese ive tried which actually comes close to the taste of real cheese. I was a huge cheese eater before i turned vegan so good vegan cheese is a heaven sent for me :smitten:

Cheezly vegan cheeses are nice? :D Cool. I'm scared to try them. Pretty sad on my part LOL.
I REALLY need to find good vegan cheese :( lol My mum (who's been vegan for 8 days) would be happy too ;) lol
Bringing any friends/family along on Sunday? :D

I dont blame you for being scared to try soy cheese...most of them are horrible
But you really must give Cheezly a go. There are a few different kinds, the mozarella and edam are fantastic for pizza and lasagna dishes
There is a place called Basil Pizza on king street in Newtown which offers vegan pizza and they use cheezly, you should check it out! They even have vegan pepperoni :D (though you need to ask for it). PLUS they make a killer vegan hot chocolate and offer a couple of free cookies to go along with it. YUM
I have one vegan friend who is coming along to the festival and im trying to get another vegetarian friend on board, though she isnt sure because of uni exams. Id love for my sister to come along but she lives in wollongong

Oh, how much I miss my lasagna lol I need to make it ;) :pibo:
Basil Pizza? Oh nice!!!! Are you vegan, btw? Vegan pepperoni, wow! Nice? We should meet up in the near future and go there! oohh, i should put this idea in the sydney meet up thread! lol. If the cookies aren't vegan, I can make my own. :) Cookies rule!! LOL
Your vegan friend is coming, awesome!! My sister can no longer come, because she has to start work at 9.30pm on Sunday night. Sucks. Mum and I will have to ask my brother and his girlfriend if they wanna come with us! We'll have to reassure them that mum and I aren't trying to convert them to vegan, or vegetarian for that matter! :p hehe.
i'll so be there.
Welcome to the forum, brian! I hope we meet! We should all meet up for a laugh! hehe
