Anyone here like to watch old moviues, specially movies ? Lots at archive.org .

1. Makes great gift for those who enjoy them.
2. Gives a refuge from Future Shock.
3. Most new movies are old movies redone with special effects.
4. Actors really had to work hard and do their best in those movies as special effects were absent mostly then.
5. Frugal and hence FREE.
6. Great to watch during bad weather.

I watched the above movie. It was quite nice. One can easily understand why such a movie was a hit in those days. :nana:

Some of the actors in silent films were just amazing. I guess you have to be good if you're trying to tell a story with facial expressions and a few words of text.

You can also get old radio plays for free on the internet. On Christmas last year, my family gathered around the laptop and listened to "A Christmas Story" starring Lionel Barrymore. My kids loved it.

And then we listened to "War of the Worlds"

And then we listened to a bunch of episodes of the Lone Ranger.

We spent hours and hours listening to radio plays that day. The kids thought it was awesome.

My favorite B&W movie is Topper Returns...

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0034303/

Strangely I haven't seen the first two Topper films (I believe this was the third).

And of course Psycho. I love old films. They rely more on dialog and characters. Not special effects and big name stars like the movies of today.

We LOVE old movies. Midnight is one of my favorites http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0031647/ I read it was going to be remade with Reese Witherspoon playing the Claudett Colbert role.

My daughter just listened to this in one of her college classes.

They are all good (I've seen them all). Didn't Topper come to TV, too, twice? I seem to remember staying up late at night to watch the older version.

The actress in Mambo is really pretty by the way and had a fantastic smile.

I just watched this Comedy movie:
http://www.archive.org/details/Little_ShopOf_Horrors.avi

It feels a bit too slow/boring when watching. However, the after effect is that it helps to escape/slow down from modern life quite a bit, so worth it.

I love old movies, especially silent ones. I watched the 1923-ish? version of the Hunchback of Notre Dame and loved it. I also am in love with the 1925 version of Phantom of the Opera. Both are Lon Chaney films- he''s fantastic. Also love Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gaslight...

Sometimes, I even feel like watching some of these movies a second time, they are so good and the second time one observes a lot more that was not observed the first time.
