Not using the freezer in your refrigerator can result in SIGNIFICANT Losses. This is from personal experience. I got too busy with other things that I didn't use my freezer properly. The food in it was quite old and doubtful that I had to throw it, also it took longer to defrost.

Now I got some freezer safe containers and cooked food. It is quite convenient to take one of them out and bring to work if I don't feel like cooking for work.

Henceforth I will defrost regularly and have a freezer use plan.

Also, I have read that if you fill up unused air space in both the refrigerator and freezer with containers of water (it will turn to ice in the freezer) you waste less energy. You should never use (own) a freezer/fridge that is too big for your life-style. Like a single person shouldn't have a full sized freezer. A chest freezer is also a lot more energy efficient than a standing vertical freezer (or refrigerator also).

we always used to fill up space in our freezer with bread. it takes up loads of room, is a conveinient shape, gets used regularly, you can often get day-old stuff really cheap from the supermarket, and it always comes out light and fluffy and soft. you can freeze it in little sandwich slice wedges, fill gaps with bagged rolls, etc. ideal for quick breadcrumbs when cooking too (frozen bread grates really nicely).

Thanks for both the above tips. I knew them, however, just got carried away and only partially filled them. Frugal negligence.
