From philosophy:
hi laura!
philosophy inc. is committed to using alternatives to animal testing to ensure the safety of our products. please be assured we do not conduct or solicit animal testing on philosophy products. we do, however, test our products on humans prior to marketing. there are some ingredients which are broadly used in the cosmetic industry that may have been tested on animals at some point in their history. for your reference, our product development team has confirmed that the only philosophy products containing ingredients derived in any way from animals are the following:
pure grace shower cream, which contains hydrolyzed milk protein
amazing grace shower gel, which also contains hydrolyzed milk protein
kiss me lip balms in nude, pink, and red, which contain lanolin
all other philosophy products contain ingredients that are of botanical or synthetic origin. the ingredients you listed (beeswax, hydrolyzed silk and cholesterol) are from a botanical or synthetic origin. caramel listed in the ingredients list does indeed refer to caramel color. please feel free to call us at 1.800.568.3151 with any additional questions you might have. we are happy to assist you monday through friday 7am - 5pm (mst). thank you and have a great day!
kind regards,
jaylynn s.
Does the first paragraph sound like they are skirting my question about whether or not they have a written agreement with their suppliers regarding ingredient testing on animals? Has anyone ever gotten a straight answer from them regarding this?
Botanical or synthetic beeswax??? I'm pretty well 100% sure there is no such thing. The silk and cholesterol, I don't know...I have heard that plants contain minute amounts of cholesterol...botanical/synthetic silk? :stinkeye: Hmmm...
