I planted a bunch of flower seeds this past spring (northern hemisphere), and they won't flower. There's quite a variety in there. I threw away the seed packets, so I don't exactly remember what I have. I know they were all shade flowers, thus I don't think the lack of sunshine is an issue. I expected colourful blossoms, and I still have green bushy things that look like weeds. I think I planted violets and impatients, among others. I water them every other day, and keep what I know to be weeds out of there. The plants look healthy. They've had buds on them for at least three months, they just won't blossom. Will someone advise me, please?

Some plants only have flowers in the second year.

Maybe that's it ?

Serious: some flowers only open up in the evening/night.

They won't open at all. I go outside to smoke, thus I sit right next to them at least every other (waking) hour.

Maybe the temperature doesn't suit them. It around 100F/37C, right now. They might want to wait until fall, or their second year.

Thanks.
