Just wondered if anyone still eats fish? I have always preferred fish to meat by far.. but hubby said to me today that I shouldn't be eating it.. is this true? Am I copping out if I eat fish?
or is there such a thing as a veggie eating fish? :sealed:

If you want to eat fish that's up to you but vegetarians do not eat fish.

Yup. Fish are animals and vegetarians don't eat fish. There are many reasons not to eat fish like pollution, by-catch, factory farming of fish, and population depletion.

Not to mention that I don't think the fish like it very much. Glad you're going to stop :)

Thanks :) My main reason for not eating animal meat is that it makes me feel ill. Just the thought of it.. need to do some research on fish then and that'll motivate me not to enjoy it anymore! if that makes sense i'm not sure, but i'm sure you get the gist of what i mean.

When someone eats fish, but no other meat, it is called a pescetarian, not a vegetarian. I can relate to you here as fish is my last thing to give up. I have been eating ALOT less and withing a few weeks I plan to be fish free. I am excited about that, and I could not have done it without the support of this board. Welcome to VB!

need to do some research on fish

I highly recommend Bottomfeeder: How to Eat Ethically in a World of Vanishing Seafood (http://www.amazon.com/Bottomfeeder-Ethically-World-Vanishing-Seafood/dp/1596912251) by Taras Grescoe. It's surprisingly entertaining.

That looks interesting, JC. I've enjoyed some of Taras Grescoe's travel writting.
I'm going to check that out!

Vegetarians don't eat fish, no.
I'm glad you're making steps towards complete vegetariansim. Fishing is cruel and fish really isn't very healthy anymore (due to the pollution)

Like the 100,000 albatrosses killed annually by the fishing industry. :grr:

I'm still eating fish but cutting back. I just started on my veg journey about 3 weeks ago and cut out every other type of meat cold turkey. It may take me a while to cut out the fish but it is my goal because you cannot be a vegetarian and still eat fish :)

I cut out all meat except fish almost 2 months ago. 1 week later I decided it wasn't good enough & gave up fish too. VB really helped me get over my cravings & I haven't regretted it. I've had very few cravings - a lot of mind over matter.

Good luck to you in your decision to become vegetarian.

Thanks everyone :) Will finish up whats in the freezer but no more - hubby doesn't eat fish much so can't palm it off on him. lol

I haven't touched animal meat since deciding to go veggie so that's not been hard at all, fish will be harder i expect but I can do it.

Good to hear! Fish are animals too, not mammals, no, but definitely animals. Quibbling about proper use of language aside, good luck with the transition!

Thanks :) the lingo is something i'll have to learn! lol
I realised how silly i sound not wanting the fish to go to waste.. mainly not to have died in vain.. so it is now next door with my neighbour who loves fish.

From today.. i'm a proper veggie! :bobo:

way to go. If you're concerned about the urge to eat fish, just keep googling by-fishing and ocean pollution and fishing industry and the more you read, the more you'll realize you don't want to eat it. I too used to love fish. Now I scowl at the word :)

thanks i'll remember to do that Nykolle - you know i always imagined that fish was healthier as if it was from the sea! I guess my family rubbed off on me, my mums uncle was a trawlerman and it's the family business. I grew up in London so whenever we visited them it seemed so much cleaner than london.
