Okay, I haven't taken a multi in, years. Probably since I had flintstones as a kid. I bought some yesterday, from walmart, to try. Since I have cut a lot out of my diet and all. I got One-A-Day Womens Active Body and Mind. I took it in the morning (because it does have guarana in it) with water after eating my first breakfast (slightly overripe banana). (I usually eat fruit when I first get up, then cereal mid morning, if I can). Anyway, I was in the bathroom within 15 minutes, vomiting pretty bad. I haven't vomited when not drinking, in, well I don't know when I have vomited when I didn't think I caused it. I have since read that multivitamins can cause nausea, but I've never had problems with other suppliments (took biotin, essential oil, etc for a while). Should I try it tomorrow with more food? or will this probably happen again?

Vitamins without a full stomach can be pretty irritating. Vitamin C, Zinc, and Iron are especially bad without a good food buffer. I get the most awful burning nausea if I take a vitamin without having a full meal, and I also get fairly nauseated in general when I take an "adult" multi. I generally stick with a children's multivitamin, or individual supplements (like B12). You have to figure your vitamin is an insurance policy. You are probably getting most of your nutrients from food.

Actually, I'm probably not. I know I don't eat enough, but I usually don't have time. I am about to start school and have an even more hectic schedule, leaving even less time for meal planning. Breakfast is probably my most planned meal of the day.

I've had this problem with Women's One a Day, and also GNC's brand. Both did the same thing to me, regardless of how much food was in my stomach. I can do sesame street chewables though, lol. In all honesty you might be better just having a really fortified, tasty breakfast. I do take Solgar's B12 vitamin without issue, you might bode well with that.

Your body can loose its ability to extract nutrients from food if you flood it with supplements, are you not eating right?

Depending on various factors you could be allergic to something in the vitamin. It may be the fish in it.
Even while in school it's important to eat a healthy balanced diet. I'm sure you know that but something just made me say it. :)
BTW-Those are not vegetarian.

have you ever taken anything with guarana in it previously? from what i've heard, people can be fairly-to-hyper-sensitive to that, especially on an empty stomach.

Yes, I have taken guarana and it never bothered me. And I understand that I still have to eat good during school, I was just saying that it will be even harder for me to plan meals. I probably do eat pretty balanced, but I am a worrier. Even if it isn't BEST to take a multi, it makes me feel better, and that is a choice I made for myself.

Nothin wrong with takin a multi. I take one when I remember :) I know it's hard to plan meals during school, wasn't that long ago that I did the same thing. You might look at your local Health Food Store and find a vegetarian supplement that would sit better on your stomach. Something natural and less synthetic :)

My OB/GYN told me when I was having this problem to just take two Flintstones. I take one in the morning and one at lunch. She also tells pregnant women who cannot handle the prenatals the same thing.

Just a note though, they're not vegetarian because they contain gelatin. Some people mind gelatin in medications more than others.

I took one with cereal the next day, went fine. Today I had another one. I just started taking them midmorning or at lunch, not when I first get up. My stomache tends to be much more sensitive in the mornings anyway. I can't eat wheat/breads in the morning, I guess gluten stuff.

Vitamins have been recommended for years because they help you get key nutrients if your diet’s low on fruits and veggies—and may even help prevent cancer and heart disease. And it’s unlikely that one critical paper (speculating that vitamin supplements might upset your body’s natural healing process and boost your risk of death) will change that.
Longtime vitamin experts at Tufts University and the Linus Pauling Institute at Oregon State University continue to say multis aren’t dangerous and the paper’s findings are wrong. The paper analyzed previous studies, including many with people who were sick before taking vitamins, so there’s a good chance vitamins weren’t responsible for shortening their lives. Experts say the paper also ignored two major studies that found vitamins reduced the risk of death.
