The evil Lennon Bros circus is now advertising on TV for its shows in Sydney. There are a few being hold around the suburbs. They have lions and other animals performing demeaning tricks and being kept in pathetic conditions, and deprived of their natural instincts and needs. Their TV ads show miserable looking lions, and a terrified monkey riding a horse. People are entertained by this???

Does anyone know if any protests or action has been organised for these events? I want to take part but can not find any info. If you know anything please post!

I tried to contact them but don't know if my email got through. They usually seem to at least encourage people to bombard the local councils. I am going to write to fairfield city council [I think Marconi Club falls under it? Will find out for sure first]. Recently I also wrote to my local council who do not allow animal circuses...yay them!

Here's a link to where the shows will be (http://www.lennonbroscircus.com.au/index.asp?id=5).

I honestly haven't had anything to do with it, but if I were you:

They require permission from the local council to locate in a public park. There are councils which won't approve them for many reasons, including AR. Hence they show up at the same places. I would suggest lobbying the local politicians and addressing letters to the General Manager, as then they will have to justify their decision to permit this sort of thing. Note that some parks are under control of State government authorities, such as Moore Park/Fox studios

If you can get them to question the reason they have given permission for this activity, they might stop from permitting it again.

Haha great minds think alike!

Yes Kristen, Marconi would be under Fairfield, unless its privately owned by the soccer club (which is unlikely but possible). I think you can call the Council and find out if its a Council-owned ground.

Oh and I am disgusted that Baulkham Hills Council is permitting this at the Castle Hill showgrounds!

On weekends they support Farmer's Markets and things.

Animal Liberation in NSW have previously organised protests over the Lennon Bros Circus so you should probably contact them to see if anything is happening.

Look how many shows there are :(

What do the lions, monkeys and other animals do for the 23 hours, 55 minutes they aren't "performing" each day? :furious:

I just emailed Lennon Bros again for something to do.

Hi guys,
I oppose to any animal curelty but these animals arn't treated cruely or underfeed or any type of thing that could harm them. Yes I do agree that at first look they look like they are treated badly and when I first went to lennon bros circus I thought it was horrible and very unethical to the animals and the veiwers of their shows. But I went back many times and provied myself wrong. These animals are treated in the most amazing ways. Yes it took me about 10 visits to the circus to work this out but I did work it out. They are trained in the most amazing ways they are not wipped or poked by and electric prod. It takes years to train them to do what they do.
When I first saw the monkey on the horse I and got into an agrument with one of the officals there. As a animal lover looking to persue a career as a vet, I came to the conclusion that their animals are very happy their I have spent so much time with them and it is truely amazing at how well they are cared for. Of a night time there is a vet nurse person who checks on all the animals every 30mins. Please stop attacking this circus they are truely doing the best that anyone could do for the animals. I am not sure how anyother circus treats their animals but I am determind to find out and if they are treated wrongly I will take a stand aganist it. But lennon bros circus does the best they can. I will be visiting that circus again in about 3 weeks as I try to go there once a month for a week or so and I shall take a stand if their animals look bad.

? ? ?
Amongst other things,
I disagree with circuses.
I disagree with animals in confined spaces and/or doing unnatural things.
I disagree with the exploitation of animals for human gain [profit].

I agree with people performing in circuses if they consent. Cirque du Soleil is one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. I personally have never attacked Lennon Bros, and would like to see circuses involving animals disappear in coming years. There are other ways to earn a living. If they love their animals, great. But it doesn't change anything for me.

Did you have to pay/fund the circus, each of those [approx] ten times?

Whether or not they're treated cruelly or not, I don't believe in using animals for entertainment.
