What the??
I just logged on to VB to cruise the boards, and there was an ad for chicken??? It was for Sulekha Curry Leaf blah blah... slogan about "Tired of different chicken dishes that taste the same? With pictures of cartoon roasted chickens.
"Now watch some videos of chicken recipes and get back that Indian taste"
I understand that as a paying member I could get rid of Ads altogether.... but... I think it's a little funny and odd that we'd have chicken ads. (Strange choice for the advertiser, as well - they aren't appealing to the right market!!)
I'm not mad, I'm just bringing it up in case it wasn't noticed!!

I think the ads pop up by context. so if someone say chicken, that ad could come up.
(or, atleast thats how it used to be)

there are some ads that i think michael would try to block, like if they were graphic pictures of a big roast or something but most of these google ads are just done by keyword so we don't really have a lot of say in what pops up.

This is the only veg*n forum I've seen which has advertisements promoting the poultry industry (http://www.poultryhub.org/?gclid=CIDEr6bxpZUCFSJIagodl1M3jg).
Obscenely ridiculous.
I've no doubt that somebody, somewhere, is making good money out of it.

do people, even really click on google ads?
the financial presenter on BBC breakfast TV, even pondered this question..
I wonder if google gets its money from people simply clicking on those things by mistake.
Still when you have huge numbers of internet users, it only takes a tiny percentage of people to click, to make a big proffit; which is how spam works.

Personally, I think I've clicked on google ads more times by mistake than not. And the one or two times I've clicked on them intentionally, I think it was mostly just to see how it worked.
Anyway... As a child of the information age, I have developed a mental filter that blocks out everything that looks like an ad. When I sense that something looking like an ad is within my field of vision, it is as if it wasn't there. This allows me to focus on the real information and not waste precious time on spam/ads. This is mostly a blessing, although once in a blue moon I miss out on important info that has the typical appearance/layout of an ad.

Contributing members don't see ads, so, that's an options if they're bothersome.

So I guess you haven't been to VegWeb or VegSource?

Does anyone still go to Vegsource? I thought they had removed their forums and replaced them with adds.

Ads, you mean ads, right, not "adds" as in a "MySpace" or "Friends" add.
I don't go there.

No.
I can't see any way that it's not hypocritical to ban the promotion of meat eating by members, whilst the site itself promotes it through advertising.

You should be able to see, considering it has been explained to you before. Michael blocks what he can, but certain types get through because of how the ad system is set up. If you would like to cut the check to foot the bill for this operation, PM Michael and I am sure he will provide you with his address.
I don't always see eye to eye with Michael (mainly because I am 6'2" and he is like 5'3" or something), and I definitely don't agree with most of the mods (probably because a majority of them spend their time farting in the bathtub so they can bite the bubbles), but for the love of seitan, sometimes y'all need to let some issues die.

The day my opposition to the promotion of meat eating dies, will be the day that I die.

I'm with IS on this one... I don't really notice most ads... I tune them out. Unless I'm at a site like VS where they're all multicolored, in-your face, built into the entire site design AND content... In which case, I exercise my right to leave that site.

Yeah, I have the ability to tune things out too.
Will VB/Michael get credit if we purchase from Amazon or other places? How can we help contribute in that way?

He used to have a page of Amazon affiliate links, I think. Not sure about that, tho.

If anything I think it's better the ads are showing here than on a site where someone might actually purchase something. But whatever, I've stated why we have the ads and how they work.
