I've lost 6 pounds in the past two weeks, which is monumental to me b/c I've been on that plateau for over a year and trying so hard to loose. And all along all I had to do was stop with all the meat, lol. I never really liked it much, so this is easy. The only thing I have been craving is chicken nuggets or a chicken sandwich. Some type of chicken. It's not going away either. I know about the fake meat, but I'm a more organic and natural type person. I'm not comfortable with all the preservatives and chemicals and stuff in them. *shrugs* Oh well, I'll live. :)

Yeah, you'll live. And to eat the chickens would mean they wouldn't.

Welcome to Veggieboards. :)

Chicken was the hardest thing for me to give up too, way back when :)
You're doing really well though and cravings aside, you'll feel much better [in a feel-good way] going without! I remember when I would cave in and eat chicken, I'd feel really guilty about what I'd done, chickens were the final straw for me, really drove it home that for me to eat it, something had to die...and half the time it wasn't even that good [these days all chicken is repulsive to me]. Undercooked, those thick jelly bits.:spew:

Sounds like you're getting a good result in terms of weight loss. Well done, keep up the good work =)

Hi pajamajes, welcome to VB!

The cravings will go away, and sooner than you think. Just keep eating really healthy food and you'll feel better than ever before!

What is it about the chicken that you really miss? I don't think it's the flavour, because chicken really doesn't taste of anything (as far as I remember), it's usually what you put on it that makes taste. You probably miss the crunch from the nuggets. You could try deep frying tofu to get a similar texture. I know it's not very healthy but it's way better than the real deal.
Keep up the great work.

I remember I went about 4 days before I had my first craving for chicken. I had a craving for one of those chicken go wraps from Wendy's. I started to question myself about if I could really do this or not or if I was doing the right thing. I ignored it and went to sleep. The next day they were gone, haven't had them since, and I love myself for not giving in!

When I want something crunchy and satisfying...I hit my jar of dried onions..

As everyone said, the cravings will go away soon. When I first switched, I had terrible cravings for chicken wings, so I made some Buffalo sauce and dipped veggies in it and the cravings never came back. Hope you find a comparable solution!! Keep up the good work. :D

The cravings will go away, just hang in there. I know its not exactly what your looking for but I love Morningstar Farms buffalo wings, they work for me every time.

well done you!

have you thought about using seitan (its just wheat) or tofu (its just beans) flavoured with a chicken style stock/broth or some chicken seasonings, then breaded? if you make it yourself, you've got absolute control of whats in there- you could use a natural, organic chicken style stock, and herbs that you would usually use for chicken, and there need be nothing weird or synthetic about it. :)

This is where your cooking skills kick in. Do some research and locate a few recipes that sound good and dive in. Welcome aboard and congratulations on your first two weeks!

Congrats on the weight loss! I've only been doing this for a few days and have lost 2 lbs so I'm excited. What about the Morningstar chik'n nuggets, etc? I really like their products. For me I have no problem giving up meat, and haven't had any cravings for it at all. I'm also giving up sugar, alcohol, and caffeine too...

I tried breading and frying tofu. Ick. I'm not a tofu lover evidentially. The cravings aren't as bad today. I've been looking up some cool recipes of things I want to try and hopefully I will be allowed to get the stuff and try them. Our grocery budget is kinda tight. Anyway, thanks for all the support! :)

I've been a veggie for about a month now, and Chicken is the one thing that gets me. It used to be my specialty. I could cook it in 100 different delicious ways. It does get better as time goes on though.

I think processed veggie chicken (the nuggets are surprisingly realistic) would be a better choice than chemical laden dead chickens. I think if that's what you need to make a comfortable transition, then go for it. A few processed fake nuggets aren't going to ruin you.
