I figured it would be a good idea for us Sooner folk (we'll allow the Cowboy folk to post here too) to have a general place for non-meetup specific stuff to be talked about.
My friend and I met up with Starwitch and Cynic 2.0 tonight at Thai Raja here in Norman. We had a lovely time, and good food and chat.
Those present at the Freebirds meetup will be happy to know I kept the artistic creation tradition alive as well. I made a random abstract thing from straws, a fortune cookie wrapper and some straw wrappers. It pretty much was a sucky unsightly pathetic attempt but I felt it inside and that is what matters right? :p
Unfortunately, the steel pac-man refrained from putting his curry sauce into his ocular membrane. Sad boohoos.
What's up with the rest of you? Dish/spill/etc. as you will here. That's what this thread's for.

You shoulda took a pic of your lovely creation!!!
Yes, very sad boohoos. At least we have hope for Sunday!!!
Not much going on in my world... just working today, so I'll be in and out as usual.

Crap. I knew I forgot something. I think I just wanted all of that awesome curry to go in my mouth.
Maybe I can score some wasabi at Pei Wei and jam it in my eye. Or I could just squirt some sriracha in my face.
Why am I trying so hard to find ways to abuse myself?:stinkeye:

Because you want to entertain the rest of us!

Well, amigo, you know they have not only the hot chile sauce at Pei Wei, but also the spicy hot mustard! And you DO have two eyes...
:p
I'm still contemplating how we will be able to go about artistic creation at Pei Wei. Should prove a challenge, but I think we can pull it off somehow.

Chop stick wrappers??
I'm sure if we pool our collective creativity perhaps we can achieve artistic greatness.
Well, "greatness"

I just got home a few minutes ago. What a fun evening! And wow, could it be any nicer outside?
Things I learned tonight:
It is possible for Cynic 2.0 to consume a meal without injuring himself
Apparently Carrie Underwood is now the singer for Metallica
Thebunni has given lots of thought to the decorum of her bicycle seat ;)
Thebunni's home-made vegan ice cream totally kicks the store-bought kind's ass
Pei Wei apparently changes their menu very randomly over a short space of time (BRING BACK THE DANG SOBA MISO BOWL SUCKAS!!)
Apparently there is only one thing to do in Key West  (well, and :rainbow: )
I need to go to Jamaica and drink rum
Apparently veg*ns are not good bowlers.
Looking forward to the potluck in 2 weeks. I'll start a thread probably tomorrow so we can all talk about what we're bringing and so we don't end up with all dessert or 12 containers of hummus and nothing to dip in them, etc.
:)

Well, Norman is flooded this morning. Glad it happened today and not last night! There's water in the streets that's over my knees it's so deep.
One might think that at some point, Norman city people might think about improving the drainage system....

Muahaha - technically I'm on my lunch break, so they can't say anything about me being online :)
I had so much fun last night, as did Jack!

In which Brandon makes a confession.....
Ok, so I have eaten at Himalayas 4 times this past week (including the meetup).
And I'm going back tonight. :o

 I can't blame you, though!
We ate at Queen of Sheba in OKC last night and I want to go back tonight! I am going to try my hand at making an Ethiopian dish tomorrow, though. :P
It was very yummy and I suggest thinking about a meet-up there sometime. Lots of veggie dishes. I'm a huge fan of Ethiopian food, now!

Never had Ethiopian, but I'm definitely interested!
We could theoretically do the next restaurant meetup there!
How is the vegan-friendly fare?
Are you guys going to make it this coming Sunday for potluck at Mary's?
BTW- Himalayas tonight was

Truth be told, I think most of the dishes were vegan friendly (minus the meat, of course!) -- there was only one veggie dish that had cheese in it, if I recall correctly. Some of the recipes I looked up call for oil or butter, but I think they used oil. I didn't get all sniffly like I do from butter... the recipes I've found for injera are primarily flour (teff) and water (some call for club soda). We might want to call to make sure on everything, though.
Jason has to work Sunday, but I'll probably drop him off and pick him up so I can have the car. It will be an adventure as I only drive around Norman. :P But if you need a ride, Brandon, let me know.

Can you both make it Saturday instead?
starwitch78
09-15-08, 11:05 AM
Hmmm... not sure. There was some talk of brewing on Saturday night, but I'm not confident on that. I'll poke a couple of people and find out. And they're downstairs, so the poking will be real. :P

Nothing worse than a fake poke.
Except a cow poke.

I have poked (no cow pokes!) some people, including Jason, and it looks like we're brewing pumpkin beer Saturday. Yum! So Sunday is still best and I'll be able to come.
I'm attempting to make Kik Alitcha (with green split peas instead of yellow 'cause that's all Target had) and will let you know how it turns out. It's really easy, but a little time consuming.
