View Full Version : I have a weird taste in guys?

I have a problem, Ok it's not a biiiig problem but still it is irritating me! GRR
Right I have a different taste in guys than a lot of other girls my age (I am 16) People in my class are ALWAYs talking about boys and who they like. Usually I don't participate because I know they'd make fun of the type of males i like! So when they ask me who i like I never know what to say! Usually I'd just say em no one really..or can't think of anyone right now. Sometimes I'd say I think such and such is nice and they tease me or make jokes etc.
I like people like Daniel Johns from Silverchair, Billy from Good Charlotte. And none of my school friends know this..if they did they'd make fun, because my friend in school has already gone on at me about how ugly Daniel Johns is and how he looks like a girl etc etc. It's so annoying I only have one friend who agrees (sometimes) and respects my taste in guys and doesn't poke fun..she rocks! But anyway what should I do next time I am questioned on who I like..? Just tell the truth and let them poke fun...just tell them and ignore any critisism? Or just make up some guy that they like eg. Justin Timberlake (yuk!) and the westlife boys! (even yukkier!) ahhh stuff my friends they are annoying!
Plus I like thin guys (I also like slightly feminine guys, I hate the whole big well built muscly look) and they also poke fun at this.
It sucks and what's worse I am a vegan so i get teased for that also. Surprisingly I don't get made fun of for being a christian though! :D

Grrrr indeed.
Hmm. I don't have an anwer to this one. I must be slipping.
Maybe you should pick some guy that you know they won't like, and that you don't really like either, and then just try to have fun practice your debating skills trying to convince them he is hot, and why.
Someone that no-one, or hardly anyone, thinks is hot? Explain why he is hot?
Sounds like it might be a fun intellectual exercise.

I don't have any good advice, but know this - I'm in the same boat. I'm 16 and all my friends tell me I have bad taste in guys. (Hello? Look at some of their boyfriends!) I'm into slightly feminine guys, guys who are comfortable with their sexuality. NOT the huge bulked up look. Ick.

just tell them flat out. "i like androgenous guys". and challenge their own likes.. question why they want men that are really masculine and muscular. or tell them that you prefer intelligent, somewhat rebellious guys.
and if they dont like it.. well thats too bad and maybe you should look for some new more open minded friends.

Sometimes the best way to deal with teasing is to come back with a joke. Like if they tease you about your vegan way of life, you can say, "Yes, it does get tiresome eating nothing but twigs and grass!" and laugh.
If they poke fun at you for the guys you like, you can poke fun at their preferences. I'm sure I don't need to say -- do it light-heartedly, without meanness!
Don't let them have the power over you in teasing... reacting with hurt feelings or anger/annoyance just lets them know they got under your skin.
You obviously have the right to be attracted to whoever you want. Lots of women are attracted to slender men, men with gorgeous long hair, androgynous men... I am myself... so you are in good company! :D

I am the same way... heh.. I go for the thin guys. :p
Don't let them tease you... Just like who you like. All it is, is teasing! They're just being silly. I'm sure they don't really care.. At least that's what I have come to conclude with my friends. We always mess with each other. :) Just be silly right back to them! It makes things much more fun... Say something like, "Well, at least the guys I like have necks" if the guy is big and muscley. heh...

Stand up for who you like! Say without flinching, "I think so and so is really cute". If your friends laugh, that is THEIR problem not yours. You are entitled to have your own opinion, don't cave in for the sake of being cool. Tell your friends you prefer brains to brawns and guitars to football.
Usually if the guy is big and muscular in high school he is big and fat by adulthood. I just visited my hometown a month ago and ran into the star quarterback, he looked like Chris Farley.
I prefer the a tall, thin dork with a wicked sense of humor over some fat neck jock any day!

aww thanks guys! You all make me feel a lot better. It's great to know others share my tastes. Anyway I'll try to be a bit more confident and not care what they say! :D
So Cissy you seem to have same tastes as me..any famous guys in particular you like?

ohhh man i love skinny guys...skinny pale guys with sorta big eyes...so i guess you could say i have weird taste too...heh.
As far as your problem goes, i agree with everyone else. Your unusual taste in guys does seem to set you apart from your friends, but it's not a bad thing...I'd take Daniel Johns over some muscle-bound "hottie" any day!

*laughs* This sounds familiar... the bad news is, it will never change. My taste in men has been ridiculed from day one - the man I am hoping to date at present, ..well ok he's not a babe but I like him. My friend however will not shut up about how ugly he is!
The important thing is what YOU feel, and what YOU like. You are the one who will have to talk to, stare at, hold hands with...see naked etc this guy.
Plus there are soo many ways in which someone can be attractive. Someone might have a really butt-ugly face (to me), but I can still want them, even if I recognise myself that perhaps I don't fancy them in a conventional way.
Just don't worry about it!! In fact, enjoy it! It gives you something to laugh about (I am sure they don't say these things to hurt you). And, you never EVER have to worry about your friends trying to get your b.f!!

Oh yeah...Brandon Boyd is right up there. And don't make fun of me....Rivers Cuomo, the lead singer of Weezer - I <3 the emo glasses  But really, I'm not into celebs a whole ton....It's weird, I find hot guys in the dorks at my school...including a guy who drinks windex :p

I'm in a similar situation, you could say, except I'm a guy. most of the people i know like women like Jennifer Lopez and Kylie Minogue. I don't like eithe rof them. They all like Beyonce as well. If I had my way, all three of these women would be locked up for their crimes against music.
Anyhow, I'm kinda weird, since I like Natalie Portman and Shakira instead, and I think they're great women. Don't feel weird since you like different people to what you're told to like. And not many other guys i know share the same enthusiasm I have over Dave Navarro, so don't feel too bad! :D

Be proud! I like that I'm attracted to people who aren't considered conventionally attractive. If everyone had the same idea of what was hot, then um...people wouldn't be getting together as much as they do.
Besides, skinny, effeminate guys are wonderful. Effeminate guys tend to be so much more sensitive and understanding. They're just more evolved in general if you think about it, because manly men are really just conforming to a stereotype that was forced on them. I'm not saying it's their fault that they feel the need to act macho all the time, or even that that's wrong if that's how a person truly is...just that it takes a lot of bravery for a boy or a man to be "in touch with his feminine side", so to speak.
Anthony Rapp is great, though no one's ever heard of him.

I love Hal Sparks, too...he's so boy-next-door.
Oh yeah, and in Sixteen Candles, I would have taken Farmer Ted over Jake Ryan ANY day.

Cissy is Brandon Boyd a vegetarian? or vegan? He's nice!:D Not as nice as Daniel Johns though. I don't quite agree with Rivers BUT I wouldn't critisize you for it! He's better looking than all those pop music guys!

Brandon Boyd is veg*n, but I don't know which kind.
Loki - I would agree with you - I like Natalie Portman and Shakira - they're beautiful.
I also like a lot of the older movie celebs - Cary Grant, Audrey Hepburn, Katherine Hepburn, etc.

Mostc women seem to like Brad Pitt. I can honestly say I have no idea why. I can see why they all like Olando Bloom, but not Brad Pitt.
And the women (or non-heterosexual guys) of VB, what do you think of Dave Navarro of Jane's Addiction? I think he's damn good looking.

Dave Navarro's really sexy... Brandon Boyd looks cute, too. I've always liked Gavin Rossdale and Edward Furlong.
I've never liked Brad Pitt, either. All my girlfriends & gay friends think he's to die for, but I don't get why. They sometimes tease me about my taste too, but afterwards I tease them about how mainstream and conventional their taste is. ;)

Brad Pitt is ugly, if you ask me. Once he was on the cover of time, and he reminded me of the creepy guys who hang out in women's underwear at stores. But Orlando Bloom's pretty good looking, especially as Legolas  And a not very well known guy - Nick Cuttrel is his name I think - he's dating Ian McKellen :p He's good looking, at least I think so.
Loki - a bit off topic, but it's awesome that you'll say guys are good looking - I hate how some guys go all "Oh, I'm too manly to say that" - it's nice to know a guy besides my brother and my ex who will.

I love androgenous guys too. My brother likes to make fun of the guys I like. But you can't beat a guy who isn't afraid to like cooking! :hungry:
