View Full Version : Have An Omni SO? Answer This Poll!
Michael
02-18-02, 02:14 PM
I know many of the female members have omni SO's (signifficant others) but I was curious how many male members have omni SO's.
Doesn't seem like nearly as many and I can only think of one off the top of my head. Thought it might lead to an interesting discussion as well.
I do. Mrs. Tame is a die-hard omni. She still cooks for me though...it's her job...'cause she is the woman.... :D
I do, though he's gone veggie for Lent :D

My husband's omni, but lately he's been trying more veg*n foods, and I haven't even been trying to get him to, it's all on his own. Yay! :D

My boyfriend is actually an on-again/off-again-vegetarian. He won't make up his damn mind. I think his family gives him hell about it. I'm classifying him as omni for now.

I lied, I don't have an other, but when I did, she was a veggie. Apparantly, I talked so much about animal rights, she wanted to eat meat. Yes, I think it is better that we are apart.
I am currently not dating anyone, but when I was, it was always and OMNI and I don't see it being too likely that I will date a non-omni anytime soon. I just don't care, as long as they are respectful. So I answered 'Veg*an dating Omni'.
It would be nice to not have to worry about meal incompatibility and such when being with someone, so I WOULD say that it would be nice to eventually find a veg-head- But then again, when I was down visiting Majake, it was like we both felt the other was the Vegan police somehow, and it made me a little on edge...
Like: It was cool to have dinner with someone who also needed to eat somewhere with vegan items, but grocery shopping came along with this "OMG what if I miss some hidden ingredient on the list, and he thinks I am the most terrible, aweful person/ bad vegan??!!"
I seem to recall he said he was conscious of a similar thing- wanting to check everything extra extra carefully to be sure I didn't think ill of him.
I found it a little stressful, honestly. Whereas with an Omni they don't really notice, and just kinda let you do your thing...

mine's an omni. and yeah i know how that is avalon. around other veggies you're all self conscious. but like around my bf and my omni friends, if i decide i do want to cheat (i'm not strict yet) they either won't notice, or will say "it's up to you", whereas if you mention something unvegan in oh ... say.. catteacorner or other veggie sites, they attack you as if you just told them you torture puppies.
its odd though cause neither of us really cared what the other ate, we just, i guess never discussed it until later.
i didnt answer the quiz cause im not really dating anyone.

That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time but sooo true.

My partner is mostly vegetarian but I classified her as Omni for this poll. We don't cook meat in the house, but she may order meat when dining out.

My significant other is omni though she doesn't eat meat or seafood. She has said she could see herself becoming vegatarian but not necessarily vegan. I really don't push the matter, just make her vegan meals whenever possible. She is great however and when she cooks for me she makes vegan meals.

My best girlfriend just recently went vegetarian. I asked her about it the other day and she says she's sticking with it, but time will tell.
Her parents and friends have been very disapproving (of course) and they are accusing her of changing just to suit me (which I certainly hope is not the case).
your BEST girlfriend? hah how many girlfriends do you have?
"None of the guys go steady cause it wouldn't be right,
To leave your best girl home on a Saturday night!
I get aroouuuuuund,

I think Veganinohio is having a Beach Boys moment.

i was omni when ryan and i met, i went vegetarian later. he's cool with it. he eats less meat now, and definately consumes less dairy. he's very particular about where he gets his meat and dairy, and of course he eats mostly vegetarian (eats meat once a day, but he eats 6 meals a day!). So, he's cool. we're very conscious of various environmental issues, and so our food consumption reflects this--for the most part. :)
hm i really don't know if i could get serious with an omnivore...it just seems that our philosophies would clash too damn much. it would be a major stumbling block.
I agree Kreeli... dating maybe... but certianly no kissing after they finished off a nice hamburger :barf:
Drexel is vegan :D
dazee is an omni in transition.
this is gonna sound weird, but here's what he eats:
no chicken, beef, pork, lamb, etc., but he will eat beans 'n lard.
he eats seafood but is trying not to
he avoids dairy products, but will eat things with butter and on occasion he buys eggs (when i'm not around).
i am proud of him. his parents came visiting from across the country last weekend and it was tough. we live in new orleans and there is not a lot of vegan fare here. he stuck with me and insisted on ordering and eating vegan in the restaruants..until we went out for sushi and he couldnt resist ordering fish.
he'll get it in time!

Well, I'm not really dating anyone, but there's the potential for me to date this one guy, and he's an omni. I think that if a guy likes me enough to be serious about me, he's gonna like the whole package. My veganism is not completely seperate from all of my other beliefs; it goes along with my views on war, kindness, environmental issues, and how as a nation we should treat other countries. If he isn't down with my veganism, then he probably isn't down with me as a person, so it just wouldn't work from the beginning.
As far as this guy that I'm considering now... he eats hamburgers in front of me, he knows I'm vegan, but he also knows that I am not a die-hard evangelical vegan. If the topic comes up, I discuss it, but I don't go out looking to pick a fight. He seems like the type that would give me a good chance to explain my views (if we get serious) and then not push me to do things that I don't feel right about doing, such as cooking meat for him. Even if we don't end up agreeing about veganism, there are certain compromises that I think I could tolerate. IE- he could order meat in a restaurant, as long as that restaurant also has vegan options for me. I tell you, in the section of Ohio where I live, vegan options in restaurants are few and far between.
Shalom,
Skylark
