I went to Vegan's Choice Grocery in Newtown on Sunday. And, OMG, was I in heaven!!!! :o :smitten: They had vegan sauces, jams, mock meats, vegan 'cheese', dry pasta, instant noodles, vegan ice-cream, vegan chocolate bars etc etc!
Near the front door, they had home made tofu icecream! Quite a few different flavours. ;)
They also have vegan books, t-shirts etc!
I recommend all Sydney residents to it out. :p

Btw, I'm pretty sure some of the t-shirts are around the $15 mark! :)

Vegan's Choice is one of my favourite hang-outs!! And their restaurant next door, Green Gourmet, is the best vegan restaurant in Sydney... :)

Most of the stuff you can get other places (but not all in the same place), but I bought some of their vegan wontons and made up some wonton soup - and it was fabulous!

I found this helpful:

However, I am a dumbass and didn't take a cooler bag, and thought it unlikely that my "foods I wanted to buy, but didn't end up buying" would make it all the way home on the train, and then the 15 minute walk on top of it. So I went without! Except for the sesame seeds, which are awesome! Imagine about a coke can sized amount of seeds, $4.50. Better than Coles!

 Yeah I am a dumbass because at home before I left, I kept saying 'oh I'm taking a cooler bag and bringing home vego stuff" lol and then I had a Seniors Moment and forgot. LOL You should see the size of my cooler bag, I swear you could only fit a couple of sandwiches in there!! [It's merchandise from the Australian Open [tennis]!]
But I should look around, see if we still have one of those old 'frij' bags... already hanging out to go back again. Mum hasn't chickened out of going to Green Gourmet tomorrow...yet.

 Mum loved her meal! When it came out we thought it was the one she ordered... then wondered if maybe they'd made a mistake and mine wasn't coming at all. She didn't know where the noodles were so I told her "It's those really fat pasta strip things. That's not tofu, so it's not mine". She got one of those ones with the protein slices designed to look like meat. I gave mine to her because it really did my head in. Changed my mind about what I was ordering at the last minute and got something with an 'exotic' sauce, which was sweet and sour sauce, and overpowering. Nice, but overkill. I won't get it again but the food quality was very good so I am keen to try more. [I'm putting this in this thread because the food is available at Vegan's Choice as well].
Before we got there - 20 minutes late, damn traffic! - I called to make a booking.
"I'd like to make a booking...for two people, at six o'clock" "[I]for four?"
"For two" "Two. What time?"
There was a whole conversation before this, where I wanted to know how the restaurant worked. When Lisa and I went to lunch, I was really confused, because there wasn't any greeting, it was just a case of picking up a plate, getting buffet food and paying at the counter before picking your own table. I wanted to know if you order from the table, or from the counter [I work in a restaurant, and I ask a stupid question like this]. The answers I received [I asked twice, never figured it out] were:
1) you can get a buffet or from menu.
2) you can pay before or after.
It was possibly the least productive phone call I've ever had, but the girl was really nice, as confused as we both were. I ordered one mixed entree, we ended up with two. I accidentally ordered green tea instead of iced green tea [but it was lovely]. Mum nearly got green tea given to her instead of coke. We were also incredibly aussie and used cutlery instead of chopsticks :o Then we had to bolt to Alexandria for an AOP fundraiser. Good times!

It's a good store. Last time I went I only wanted 1 or 2 items and ended up buying so much that I could barely carry it all. :D The storekeeper offered to help me carry it to my car. I said, I didn't have a car. He asked how far I had to go... surely with that much stuff it was just up the road? I said "Wollongong". He just gaped at me. :D Well, I don't get in their much I have to stock up! Right?

If you don't get in there much than you DEFINITELY have to stock up! ;) hehe

Yeah my cooler bag is merchandise rip-off [How good is my engrish?] from the Aus Open, I used it the year I got it, now I dunno where it is. It's not at all practical! Went past there today, and was discussing the greatness of GG next door. :guitar:
Kiz, I'm very good at justifying things. For example, for the price of one Josh Groban ticket, you could buy FIVE tickets to see Gyroscope. PLUS They are from Perth so you don't see them much and need to take advantage of the situation. *True story* [/fangirl]
Just use Coles/vegan groceries as substitutes for the musicians. ARGH two days til Gyroscope! :lovesign::up: [/tangent] So really, you are doing yourself a favour by spending up. It's an *investment!*
