Just heard on the local news in the UK that a massive earthquake has rocked California.
Can anyone shed any more light on this? Hope you are all OK!

I'm okay, but it was a pretty strong one, 5.8 on the Richter scale, cuz it was felt pretty good here in Santa Monica and got the building where I'm working swaying. It was centered in Chino Hills. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chino_Hills%2C_California)
So I and a few others ran down the stairs to the street, thinking we were ALL supposed to evacuate - and found nobody else in the building down there. So we came back up to the eighth floor.
Somebody else I worked with said he was going to take the elevator downstairs. I scolded him for that.

Ugh, it was frightening. Everything in my office was shaking, I still am freaked out by the whole thing.

The worst part is waiting for the aftershocks, I got so worried I was scared to pee, lol.

Definitely felt it here in Long Beach! Very freaky...
It's got me thinking abut future quakes and a preparedness kit. What would some good food items be to have stored for the "big one"? Obviously lots of water but it terms of canned or non-perishable foods that are Vegan...any suggestions? I'm going to put that kit together straight away after today's scare!
Hope everyone is safe!

To everyone in CA, glad you are all ok! I thought about all the VBers out there when I heard.

Felt it pretty strongly in San Diego. I was in a pre-fab classroom, felt the shaking, thought I was trippin' because when I asked the students if they felt the earthquake, they all said they felt nothing. :tired:

Wow, I'm surprised you heard about it!
All is well here :) I heard that there's a 100% chance that they'll be another huge earthquake within the next 7 years in this area. Big enough to kill. Scary.

This is just crazy stuff...I've only felt two earthquakes in my lifetime living in NY...I don't remember what they registered...they were very mild. For the most part, we weren't even sure it was an earthquake until we heard about it on the news. But you definitely felt the shaking and heard dishes/glasses rattling in the cupboards. I can't imagine anything worse than that. Very scary!

I remember the huge 1994 earthquake... that was crazy. I feel earthquakes quite often actually. They usually occur at around 3-4am and they wake me up. About 2 years ago, we had about 3 earthquakes in 1 week, remember that? They were during the day too.

I remember back in the 90's there were mild earthquakes (about 3.0 or so) on two consecutive June 28ths - my birthday. :surprised
Earthquakes that mild are not scary. Feeling them is like being on a rollercoaster. I remember one of them hit early in the morning, but I was already awake and just laying in bed. I had my bedroom windows open, and I could hear somebody outside going 'whoaaaaaaaaah!" like he'd just gotten off an amusement park ride.

I usually get a little nervous when I feel an earthquake because you never know when it's going to get bigger. Mild shaking is fun :)
