I'll be visiting San Francisco late next month and am hoping to get a tattoo while i'm there. Can anyone recommend a good place?

yes! the diamond club is a great tattoo shop. It's reasonably priced and very clean. Me and three of my friends have gotten many tattoos from Nervio and we've never had a bad tattoo there. Check out his website for examples

I have only south bay exp. but pierce Ink in San Jose is 50 miles south but worth the drive abd the prices are fair. I had a piece done there years a go and they offered free touchups, not usual in the biz
