Hey Ladies :trick:
I'm interested in finding out who uses "alternative" feminine products, and do they save you money? I'm really tired of the price of tampons! Lol. Also, I want to do something that's better for the environment--- no more plastic in the trash! So, any suggestions? What do you use? How well does it work?
Thanks :D

Hi!
Try looking in the General Health forum. There is a Women's Health Issues subforum in there that has a thread about Keeper/Diva, etc. You could ask the ladies there about their experiences.

lalalinny, definitely read the menstrual cup thread. It's long, but read it all. Most of us who use menstrual cups have posted our stories there.

I've got a cup as well. It supposedly lasts 10 years, so after the first 8-10 months, it's paid off, so to speak. Lots of free years after that!

Yup, just like Skylark said, I think we've all posted our stories in there. :) That's a great thread. I've been using my DevaCup for... I guess 6 months or so and I lovelove it. I got it for all the same reasons you're looking into alternative things. I read every post in that thread and was convinced :)
BTW- That thread is here. ("http://www.veggieboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=73390)

I've been using my keeper for almost 4 yrs now and I love it. I also have a few reusable cloth pads that I use at night.

I don't have a cup, but I've been using cloth pads for a couple of years now. I made all my own. That makes them pretty inexpensive. :)

i have really light flow these days so i buy the cheapest store brand ultra thin pads and ob tampons cause they have no applicator to throw away and they're smaller so less waste to flush. i don't have to worry too much about leaking etc since it's so light and only lasts like 2-3 days. i do use a ton of liners though all month and i wish i could find a reasonable alternative

Same here! Well, no years, but about... 6(?) months.
But mine have been going wonky, I think I need to find a new pattern.

I get that this is a "frugal" issue but shouldn't this be in the Women's forum? :)
I've heard of cloth pads before and after clicking that link ^ I'm interested and grossed out all at the same time lol. Was that pic really neccesary? Either way it might be a nice thing to have as a backup for my DC on those first two days. Neat! :)

That's not blood on the pad, it's just the color of the fabric. Was that why you were grossed out? I apologize, I didn't even think of the color of the fabric.

Lol Yeah I wasn't expecting that. Just drinkin my coffee, thinking I'd see some patterns and stuff... and BLAM! :)
It's no big deal and you don't need to apologize. Like I said it interests me... just not early in the morning and not that color lol.

Cloth pad user here too, and I've definitely saved money! I can't stand buying things just to throw them away though.

Yeah my solution to saving money on them was to HAVE A KID. wait a minute, I guess that was a bad long term choice for saving money...

This may be a stupid question as I didn't have a chance to read all the post.
You are washing these pads right? and then reusing them.
It sounds like a good idea ..
I will think abt it
I mean this is what ppl did in the past!
