Can anyone tell me where I can find vegan paintballs? All the ones I've come across have gelatin in them.
Thanks. :)

I don't know anything about paintballs, but I didn't realize they were gelatin based. You learn something new everyday :). Will you be bringing your paintball gun to the Washington get together? hehe.

hehe. :D No, I'll be leaving it at home.
I've actually never used a paintball gun before. It's something that Tim has gotten into.
He just ordered a two gun set for us then discovered the paintball encapsulation is made of gelatin - kinda like vitamin capsules. I never would have even thought of it.
We've been searching for vegan ones without any luck. Now I'm in a moral dilemma. I haven't quite decided how to handle it.

That is a tough one. If it was me, I'd probably use them anyway only because you don't ingest the paintballs and you try to keep them off your bare skin!

I've always thought paintball looked like fun. Have a good time if you decide to do it though, and don't shoot your eye out ;)

Most of the paintballs I have seen in stores, have the gelatin case.

ive never seen vegan paintballs and ive searched for them
i used to like playing with paintball guns... but alas no more

this was a couple years ago, so maybe things have changed and vegan ones are now made, but i doubt it

really, if you think about it, there isnt another cheap way to form the paintballs without gelatin

sorry, im not helpful
but if you find vegan paintballs... let us know!!!!

I did a search and found this article-

http://www.bioprogress.com/news/news1077.html

At the bottom, it lists the other uses of this new technology, including paintballs. Hopefully they'll come out with some soon, 'cause I would love to have some fun with paintballs!

That was one of the first things I found when I did a search. Maybe I'll email them to let them know that people are definitely interested.

But I'd still be using something that came from the death of an animal. I do however still use film. Is using paintballs really any worse? Neither are necessary for my survival. My husband bought a 2 gun set (paintball markers are not cheap!) and if I don't use the paintballs, he'll just play with somebody else who will. Am I just being selfish in even considering using them?

Okay. I've made up my mind. No paintball for me. I just can't bring myself to do it. I'm a little irritated that I ever even considered it. Shame on me.

Hi People,

I just wanted to let you all know that I was also searching for vegan paintballs and found this company: http://www.evil-paintball.com/products.htm

John Dresser, from that company informed me that their paintballs have no animal products. They use a cornstarch based gelatin.

Happy Paint Balling!

Why not just play airsoft?

I find it strange that someone concerned with not using gelatin would enjoy playing paintball. I mean I'm not veg yet. I was vegan for 2 years. But personally if I decide to adopt a vegan philosophy again, I will be against guns and violent video games. I think one needs to do more than just not eat meat than be a truely compassionate person.

zen, my husband, my friends, and i are all compassionate, socially conscious people and we think paintball is the shizzle. we also play with waterguns, shoot rubber bands at each other, and occasionally play dodgeball. and many years ago, we could be found indulging in some laser tag. i don't think it has infiltrated my brain with violence. this isn't to say that i wouldn't draw the line at my own children playing with certain toys, but some things are just good fun.

can't wait to buy some vegan paintballs. :guitar:

I never thought about paintballs having gelatin, but I haven't played since I became vegan. It's nice to know that there are at least some alternatives out there.

zen, to tell the truth... airsoft is plagued by cheating, even moreso than paintball. The people who usually play it around here aren't too great to be around either (military nuts). Playing games like paintball, or videogames have very little to do with (lacking) compassion.... The thing is, it's a game. No one gets hurt (aside from accidents) and everyone is there to have fun (at no expense to a real living creature).

I know this is an ancient thread, but I hope someone does see this...I looked at the old links for vegan paintballs and they are 404's now, also--I was surprised that the gelatin of the paintballs was the only problem cited; I was more concerned about the use of FISH OIL in the paint...anyone?

That's a bummer, as I was thinking of buying a paintball gun for the express purpose of not firing it at McDonald's billboards. :D

I just wanted to let everyone know that Evil paintballs still use Gelatin, with a cornstarch additive. I've heard that there is a brand called SoftGel that doesn't use gelatin, but I don't know if that's true. Even if it is, I'm sure it's expensive. Seems paintballing is out for me. Would be nice to play airsoft with people who don't cheat, but the people I played paintball with would wipe all the time, so there's no way airsoft would work.

WOW! I used to play paintball a while ago, then stopped due to conflicts with work and my friends moving. I'm not sure that I was a vegan then, or if I was as careful a vegan, but it didn't occur to me until today that I need to watch out for gelatin! I just wanted to thank you for posting that evil paintballs are vegan because those are easy to get my hands on. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

It's kind of like playing tag, it's loads of fun. If you believe that paintball etc. leads to violence, that's your opinion, but I am a vegan and would not dream of hurting anybody or anything. I'm pretty sure that makes me compassionate.

I'm a vegetarian. Not hard core vegan, but do my best to avoid animal products. I understand some vegans are conflicted with playing paintball, for the use of gelatin in the balls.

But do you think that the paintball industry is causing the death of animals? I'm not so sure. I think it is just using up "extra parts" from animals that have been destroyed to feed the meat industry.

This question can be made more general to: Is it really that bad to purchase products that do not directly cause harm to animals, where those products have used animal leftovers from other bigger industries?

Do you agree or disagree?
