View Full Version : No Dog for me :(

I just graduated from college and the one thing that is and has always been missing from my life is....a dog.
I really want a small dog....maybe a Bichon or a Yorkshire terrier....but my mom has always been dead set against having a dog in our house (I can't really have any say because I don't pay for anything yet).
She is disabled and claims she can't take care of a dog (even though she wouldn't have to), is obsessed with neatness (even though a small dog wouldn't make much mess...I want a SMALL dog), and claims to be allergic to pet dander (Bichons are hypoallergenic!).
I just wanted to say that I am sad....and dogless. :( :cry::cry:

awwww. you can have a dog, you just can't have a dog NOW. but you could go and love and fuss and walk the little doggies who don't have nice people to do that for them, at a rescue centre. that way you get LOADS of dogs, just on a part time basis. :)

Unfortunately, as long as someone else pays for things, you don't have much choice. Respect your Mom's wishes (even if they seem unreasonable) until you're financially and responsibly able to get your own place.
Until then, maybe you could volunteer at a shelter or vet's office? Maybe if your Mom sees how determined and mature you are about it, she'll change her mind.

Well you said you graduated from college, so you probably will be moving out of your Mom's house sometime soon, right? When that happens then you can have your dog. Check out the local rescue groups and get a baby who needs a home.

Don't worry the time will eventually come where you have your own place and will have responsabilty of your own dog. Like others have said I would listen to your mom more for the dogs sake than anyones, it would be unfair for the dog to have to live with a person who has a deep dislike for it. In the meantime you could help out at a shelter, boarding kennels or walk/look after other peoples dogs. This would also give you extra experience with dogs and the care they require.

You would really be shocked at how much mischief a small dog can get up to and they are usually quicker doing it as well. There is no such thing as a hypoallergenic dog, bichons still produce dander they just don't shed hair.
