I take Efexor-XR capsules for my depression and tonight, I found out that it's got gelatine in it...

What do you think I should do?

Does this mean I'm not a vegetarian?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I also take anti depressants and maybe its selfish of me but i'd rather take them 3 times a day than be back where i was.

I wouldn't worry too much - if you need your meds, then you should take them. I try to find vegetarian alternatives whenever I can, but if I can't (especially with prescriptions), I just take the pills/capsules and forget about it. It certainly doesn't make you any less of a vegetarian.

thanks guys :) ive been worried since finding out. ive been thinking that i cant call myself vegetarian, let alone vegan! (ive been on vegan diet for 10 days)

i agree law! i take mine (150ml) once a day... I don't want to imagine how I'd be if I weren't taking them. It scares me to think about, really!

ive been thinking that i cant call myself vegetarian, let alone vegan! (ive been on vegan diet for 10 days)

the word "veganism" denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude — as far as is possible and practical — all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment.

(emphasis mine)
+1 what mazikeen and law wrote (taking prescription medication containing gelatine certainly doesn't make you any "less veg*n")

If you need a medicine, take it.
