I am addicted to doing yoga after starting up again last week. I have been doing it almost everyday and although I'm feeling some of the benefits I'm aslo quite soar...is it safe to keep practicing while I'm soar or should I have days between my practices maybe to let my muscles cool down?

Yoga is an awesome activity! I always do it when I can find the time.
Your body being soar is usually a sing to take it down a notch, but if the excersize doesn't add to the pain you should be okay. Just don't do anything that you can feel your body rejecting (I know, some of the stretches can be difficult, I continuously fall over :P) and keep in the bounds of your physical limitations.
Because yoga is essentially stretching, I can't see streching soar muscles to have a seriously adverse effect, as long as it isn't overdone.

yoga is also strengthening. so, muscle soreness is normal.
and yes, you can continue to do yoga with muscle soreness. it's fine.

It kind of depends on how sore you are really, and also the fact that you've only just started back up again is an important thing to consider.
I would give myself a day off just to allow my muscles to recover a bit.

I no longer get sore from yoga, but sometimes I end up totally exhausted. I've been doing about 10 classes a week for two months now and I plan to decrease that quite a bit because I'm just so danged tired all the time.

I just get really exhausted from yoga - but I do the hot kind, so I spend an hour or more in 35+ (Celsius) degrees stretching and sweating. Definitely not sore, and I feel refreshed, but oh so ready for bed. I started going to evening classes last month, and I'm really happy I made the switch.

I do a mix. "soft", "mixed", "deep stretch", and "yoga jam" are all kinds that incorporate elements from different types of yoga and those are just what my yoga place has named the classes. I also do Vinyasa Flow and Power Yoga.
I haven't tried the hot yoga yet. One of the teachers likes to have the room around 28-29 degrees during his Vinyasa flow and Power Yoga classes. I'm not too fond of that. Luckily, classes are only 70 minutes long. If I really want to experience heat and sweat a lot while doing yoga, I can just do it outside. :sunny: Perhaps I'll view it differently when winter comes. In any case, my boyfriend does Bikram and I said I'd try it when I go up to visit him, so we'll see...

I usually get to a class every day but since I've had some much work jammed into the end of the school year that I haven't gotten to a class in almost 2 weeks! I just had my last final, so I'm going to start going regularly again. I love yoga, when I practice regularly I am so much more at ease throughout the day and much happier, too.
Bikram yoga is lots of fun, but very expensive! I'll probably have to wait until fall to buy a month membership, but I'm excited to get back into it!

in the tradition, no matter the level of soreness, one is encouraged to practice. maybe not to the same intensity or what not, but still encouraged to practice.

I love Yoga! I love the strength it builds. I love the calm I feel when I am done. And I find I sleep sooo much better on days when I do it.

I love yoga too, but because I'm trying to save money I am just doing it at home by myself at the moment. I practice on the wiifit (it tells me how my balance etc is going) and I also just practice by myself. If I get a new job and earn a bit more I hope to go back! I complement it with boxing - which I also love!!

i've been going to bikram yoga for a little over two months and i love it. i'm way more flexible and my spine feels so much better than when i started.
it is quite expensive though so i'm only going three times a week now, i'll probably buy an unlimited year pass when my gym membership expires in november.

My husband and I have started going to yoga classes in a community next to ours. I don't know what type of yoga it is, but the lady who teaches is very good, lovely sense of humour, very careful about the students who are just learning and we're enjoying it very much. My husband is very, very, very stiff and he decided to try it because he gets tension headaches as a result of what the massage therapist calls, muscles like concrete. I am already more supple but need to learn the proper application of the postures.

Listen to your body. If its just your muscles that are sore but the rest of you still wants a more vigorous practice, then go with that. But if you feel like you need a rest then tone it down some with a restorative practice. A lot of times, if I'm sore from running or yoga, I'll use it as a chance to do a longer pranayama (breathing) practice.

I tried a kundulini class a couple of weeks ago. The chanting and type of breathing involved was a bit strange to me, but I otherwise really enjoyed it.
