I recently made the switch to veganism, and I have every intention of weeding out my leather products from my wardrobe... I'm waiting for shoes to run out before replacing them because of limited finances. I have two pairs of Birks (sandals and clogs) made of leather that I absolutely adore (I KNOW they aren't vegan and I feel bad for continuing to love them, but they are sooooo comfortable...) and I am already starting to worry about finding suitable replacements for them when they wear out. I was wondering if you all could give me any help in that department -- what brands of vegan footwear do you all prefer?

Fear not.. you can still get vegan Birks. There's a great selection of vegan footwear here...

I have vegan Birks. I love them. Oneness also loves them. I almost didn't get them back from her in Atlanta.

I've got Birks, too. Two pairs of them, actually! I also wear Tevas and Chacos, both of which I adore. Plus, there are always flip flops. :) Here are some links-

Teva- http://www.teva.com/?source=overture&p=over02
Chacos- http://www.chacosan.com/

For birkenstocks, besides Pangea, there is also www.birkenstockexpress.com and www.birkenstockcentral.com

They both have pages that list all the leather-free footwear. Just make sure to look out for the few that have wool.

Here are a few more links that have vegan sandals-

www.mooshoes.com

As you can tell, I'm somewhat of a shoe fanatic. :)

I just bought a new pair of chucks actually - the pink ones. As I'm a teen, I can't buy a lot of the expensive shoes, but you can get vegan shoes at places like Payless, Walmart, Target, etc, sometimes. Just read the labels.

I just got a pair of vegan birks as well. I used to have the leather kind a long time ago and couldn't find them for the life of me. But the new ones are great, except for the breaking in part.

My SO loves his vegan birks.

I've been wearing flipflops all summer, but come fall I'm going to get some vegan boots. I love my Fluevogs and I dearly wish I could wave a magic wand over them and turn them non-leather! I will probably keep them but I feel a little funny wearing them now.

(edited to add cute shoes)

I was browsing the Moo Shoes site, and found these:

eek! cute mary janes, and cheap! (http://www.mooshoes.com/edc-cgi/moostore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=9009)
heel's a bit high for me, but tempting! (http://www.mooshoes.com/edc-cgi/moostore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=8092)
not a style I normally choose, but I like these (http://www.mooshoes.com/edc-cgi/moostore.cgi?user_action=detail&catalogno=9023)

I used to have a pair, and I just adored them.. but I accidently left them outside in the rain about a week ago and it ruinned them. :( I guess I'll just get a new pair, but one thing I do wish is that they didn't stink after a while. You'd think with them being non-leather that they wouldn't stink like the leather ones.. but I still have a problem with that.

How do you know if your shoes that you already own are totally non-leather? I have a pair of chucks, a pair of nike shoes, and some boots. I assume the boots are leather but I don't really know. My friend said that the rubber that goes around shoes is made from animals, is this true?

I KNOW that some of the shoes I already own are leather... As far as the doubtful ones go... I have no intention of replacing all of my shoes at once (don't have the money), so I'm just waiting until all of my current pairs wear out. As each one goes, I'll replace it with a pair that I am SURE is vegan. It seems like the safest and most economical way to go. :)

If it's real leather, it will usually say it is, considering that's a "positive" thing for the industry. Most people WANT leather stuff, so products tend to brag about it.

You won't regret buying vegan Birks. I only wear other shoes if I have to. And www.birkenstockexpress.com has really excellent service so I recommend them. I had to send mine back twice because the sizes didn't work and they were very friendly and prompt.
