Why are you "not allowed" to go vegetarian?

You would get a lot more help if you asked a mod to move this to one of the main boards.

Good job! I'm glad you're not one of those "help my parents will forecefeed/beat me if I don't eat rotting dead carcasses!" people. :)
Seriously, good job! There are tons of recipes here, just go look in the recipe section! :D

The way I see it, it's your body, you are old enough to make your own decisions, and you feel strongly about going veg, so don't let your parents stifle that. Just explain to them why you feel the way you do about it and don't compromise.

Are you trying to be funny?
I'm one of those "help my parents will forecefeed/beat me if I don't eat rotting dead carcasses!" people. My mother literally forced me to eat meat in the beginning (about a year ago), and I had the bruises to prove it... The harsh words weren't too great either...
ETA: Yes, I did work through it, and we are, for the most part, okay now. We have an understanding and she is more supportive. Just try not to judge people, alright? You have no idea of what other people's parents are like nor what someone goes through.

I'm sorry, Bells! I didn't mean to be so judgemental. It's just that a lot of my friend exagerate about things, so I was only assuming people were being melodramatic when they say things like that. I never really imagined it happened--I know, stupid and closed-minded of me. I live in my stupid world in my head--everything's perfect, or everything goes wrong. :wall:
So I apologize.
I'm truly sorry that your mother did that to you. I'm assuming we agree that it's a dumb reason to get worked up about.
But then again, assuming makes and ass outta me, right? :)
I admire your ability to keep at it and continue to fight for what you believe is right! :wayne: It was wrong of me to say such a thing. I was wrong and I never will again!! I'm sorry if I made you angry, too.
:sunny: Sunshine and smiles please! :) <3<3<3<3!!!!!!!!

Oh, no, you didn't make me angry. I'm sorry if I came off that way. It's just a touchy subject to me, for obvious reasons. What happened to me is something I will never be able to really get over...
Anyway, don't worry, no hard feelings. :)

OH I am so sorry your mother treated you like that!!! Wish I could just adopt you and let you eat the yummy vegan food here at our house.

If you are really not allowed to go vegetarian (for two years my dad made me eat fish so I know how it feels), there are some things that you can do to reduce suffering.
Give up all poultry (chicken, turkey, duck) except wild shot pheasant. These animals suffer more than any other in farms. Your parents cant have a go at you then because you are eating "healthy meat", you are just chosing ethically. They give up anything from a pig unless it is organic and free range. They surely cant give you stick for that. show them pictures of farrowing crates and fattening houses.
After a while, give up all non-organic meat. After a while they will be so used to you limiting your choices in meat that they are likely to just give in and let you go vegetarian.
Veganism may be a little harder, because you wont get enough nutrition by just eating the same meals but without meat, but it can be done. :-)

Seriously, we do see a lot of attention seekers who sob about how their parents will be SO HORRIBLE to them if they don't eat flesh, but aren't willing to cite any examples of said "horrible-ness" or any reason their parents would react this way.

wow, i never thought that things for some people would get that extreme. that's really sad.
it made me realise how lucky i am.
my whole immediate family is vegan, and i have been one for 12 years.
as for recipes, i like stir fry with tofu. it's pretty easy as you can buy most noodles where i am vegan, and then just chuck in veggies, or if you're really desperate, frozen veggies will do. soy sauce makes a plain meal really tasty, and braggs is pretty good too.
have you heard of the Amy's frozen meals? if you live in the USA quite a few of them are vegan if you don't mind the taste of microwaved food. i like their burritos and california burgers.

Frozen cheese pizza.
Thaw it out.
Put pineapple on top.
Then ditch it and find a take-out restaurant that makes pineapple pizza calzones because they are so much better.
But seriously:
Frozen pizza
Frozen substitutes (Morningstar Farms & Boca)
Burritos (soft shell tortilla, a bit of refried beans and cheese with lettuce or corn for your preference)
PBJ Sandwiches (when you gotta, you gotta)
Pasta (it takes 20 minutes to heat up some on the stove, let it cool and pour sauce on it)
Remember, this is simple. I only eat this now because I'm a teenager with zero income. ( -_-)

amys frozen meals are great
veggie burgers/dogs/chicken fingers/ect are heat up and eat.
you cant go wrong with a veggie sandwhich from say subway/quiznos/firehouse ect
and then there is some great stuff in the recipe section that takes a little more work, but is extra delicious

that makes no sense to me either. you are your own person. i understand where you are coming from though. my parents find it "stupid." but if it makes me happy, then im going to do it. it's not like they are going to tie you down and shove a hamburger down your throat.
p.s. if they actually do that...let me know and ill flick them in their heads.

It's your body. Your parents shouldn't have control over what you put into it. Try giving her reasons why you went vegetarian. Better yet, have her watch the *Meat Your Meat* video. My parents don't care so much anymore, but my brother annoys me about it a lot. My uncles have this strange fixation that you need meat to survive. So I just ignore it. Keep on trucking, soldier :D We're here for you!
As for recipes... a quick grilled cheese is easy  I also find veggie burgers and veggie sammies as a quick and easy way to hit the spot.

My parents were worried about the cost of food. They felt that they could get away with buying little to know produce granted I was still eating meat. Well... I decided to wait and tell them of my decision several months after I went vegetarian, and they took it rough. Now that it has been a year, they are much cooler about it now. They still make fun of me and stuff, but whatevs. At least I have the choice without them forcing me.
