Bare Escentuals

Hi Everyone,
Someone told me that Bare Escentuals has products that are vegan friendly. Is this true? I'm having a hard time telling from the website.

While I'm not sure about the ingredients of their cosmetics, from what I've seen they really stress the proper application of their cosmetics with their animal-hair brushes. So while the cosmetics may or may not be (accidentally) vegan, they're certainly not a vegan company.

That said, I've occasionally bought an accidentally vegan item from a non-vegan cosmetics company in the past.

Most of BE's makeup is vegan, some of their products have carmine though. I use Everyday Minerals, and I've heard Raw Minerals is good too. Everyday Minerals claims to be cruelty free, but they use some animal hair brushes and one of their powders has silk.

Just thought I'd share which BE products are not vegan-friendly. I e-mailed them recently and it turns out that a lot of bareMinerals items contain carmine. *facepalm*

Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, our BareVitamins is Vegan Friendly. I believe the only items that are not are our natural bristle brushes (we do carry synthetic) and our products that contain the red dye carmine that is derived from beetle wings.

WOAH! that's a long list of carmine products!

BareMinerals foundation gave me a terrible burning sensation on my face... I'm trying to stick with handmade goods these days.

I LOOOOOOVE the eye shadows from Coffin Color (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5144018) (she's closed at the moment but will reopen VERY soon-- she is moving the location of production / shipping right now). Coffin Color is 100% vegan.

Another good seller is MixologyMakeup (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5223734), the foundations there are vegan as well. :)
