I am heading for a run this evening. I need to get my fat butt moving again. I ran a half marathon in February and I plan on running the same one again next year. I plan on running a better time. I would love to lose 20-25lbs and hope that by getting moving that will encourage a better eating lifestyle.
I have been having a hard time getting moving lately. I think I am a bit depressed and that makes it hard to get moving, but I think that it is a vicious cycle in the sense that I get depressed and don't want to run, but by not working out I get more depressed. I am just going to give it up, and hit the pavement today. I don't get home from work until nearly 7 but plan on taking the dogs out, feeding them, and then going. I am only going to run a mile today, but it is better than nothing.
Wish me luck! :dizzy:

Just remember that a lot of research shows how powerful running can be in fighting depression. It's the anti-drug, and it works. Get out there and run and you WILL feel better and be in better shape. If you need motivation, just remember how good you felt after your last run. Also, remember you only need 15 min of running to get the feel-good juices flowing, and 30min of running a day is sufficient to stay in optimal health. It's such a small percentage of your day, and be grateful that you can even run. I feel so very fortunate I am healthy enough to experience the joys of running.
You could also try Nike+ if you have an ipod - the chip set is only 40 bucks and it helped me and many others I know get started.

Of course, I have an IPod, doesn't everyone. LOL. I can't do the Nike+ because I wear a pair of running shoes not a pair of Nikes.
Anyways, I got out and ran a quick mile yesterday because I didn't get out for a run until about a quarter until 9, but no worries. I figured it was better than nothing and I slept better last night. Woo-Hoo.

I don't wear Nikes, either. My friend made me a little pocket that attaches to the laces where I put the chip. Or, most shoe stores sell pre-made pockets for $15. Congrats on your run!

Oh, that is a fun idea. I will check out the pocket thing.
Do you run?

yeah, 6.5m most days.. trying to get my butt out the door before the sun comes out and glares down at me.

Wow, that is awesome. I was running 6m 3x week when I was training for my half, but then I laxed after that. It is so hot here, so I need to run, either before the sun comes up or after it goes down which makes it tough.

I'm going for a half marathon this Sept!! Part of me wants to do the full marathon--I feel like a half is just a "oh.. who cares" sort of thing--but then again I never ran until a few weeks ago! (Before that I biked or swam). I'm doing about 5m a day, but need to step it up!!
Best of luck--I find that while at first its a bit dragging to get out, you get so into the swing of it that it becomes a part of your daily routine; you stop questioning "should I go for a run" and start finding time for it without a thought--because you just have to!

I also run but I'm nowhere near running a half marathon. I'm building my distance back up again to what it was last summer. I reached 7ish miles once last summer but I generally did 5 to 6 mile runs. I always seem to hit a "wall" after about 6 and I get tired and thirsty.
Being the old codger that I am, I find it's less hard on my knees and ankles to space my runs out with a day or so in-between them so I have time to rest.

I haven't gone back out since that one run last week. Maybe I will try to get out today...who knows. We went down to this sink hole on Sunday and my calves are killing me, but maybe that will be good for them.

I just registered today for a 5k at the end of the month- and it's at night!! Starts at 11 pm. I think it'll be a lot of fun, I've never really run at night before. It benefits an art museum, so a good cause.
I'll be registering in about 2 weeks for another at the end of August.

I'm still looking for a deal on a good road bike, I'd like to start training for duathlons at some point. I just don't have the $$ to drop on a new road bike.

What I find helps me in motivation to run is to watch triathlon or adventure racing or something on tv. This summer it'll be the olympics. They always inspire me to get out and do whats on the schedule. That and being a part of a running club helps tons. If you have one in your area I suggest checking it out.

Dean Karnazes has a great book on running if you haven't already read it. "Utramarathon Man: Confessions of an All Night Runner."
What a fantastic read! I envy those who haven't read it. I wish I could go back and read it for the first time.
Everyone I have recomended it to has felt inspired on some level. He's a great writer, and an excellent athlete.
Another good motivating book I've found is "A Walk In The Woods" by Bill Bryson. Besides being the funniest book I've ever read, it is supremely motivational.
These 2 books are probably my all time favorite books in the whole world.
