where do you find soap flakes and washing soda? I haven't noticed it in my grocery store - thought it was easy to find...(want to try making my own laundry stuff...)

arm and hammer laundry soda is clumped together with all the pre-treating stuff like bleach, borax, tide to go pens, and all that other stuff in most of my local supermarkets. i didn't see soap flakes, but i saw solid soap bars in the same place (i wonder if you can just grate them with a cheese grater- don't use it for cheese afterwards without washing it loads though).

if you've tried there, it might be worth trying a different store or asking someone who works there. maybe a rona/homedepot/b&q DIY type place would be worth a look if you still can't find them.

what country/state/county area are you in?... that'd help narrow it down a bit- maybe somone local to you has seen it around.

They do sell it at my grocery store, luckily I suppose. Did you ask? It could be in cleaning products or laundry. Maybe try a hardware store too, which is weird sounding but the small mom and pop near me has all kinds of cleaning stuff. You could probably just call and ask.

You could make laundry stuff out of castille soap (natural foods store) and baking soda I believe as well

I recently noticed Veganessentials.com has soap nuts - 100% natural (meaning NATURAL not "natural") way to wash!

Yes, that exactly what I was going to post, grating soap with a cheese grater.

We made the laundry soap before, when we were real poor and hubby's plant was thinking of closing. We used the fels naptha, soda, borax. I'm on a different computer now, so don't have the info that was in the bookmarks on the other, but it might have been recipe 1 here:

You can use plain, plain soap and grate it up-- make sure it isn't full of crap though and it isn't scented... you don't want something with a "superfat". hopefully itsveggietime! can give you some good advice, I'm a soapmaker but do not make laundry soap.

I buy mine here... (http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=20548) and I love it. I just ordered a bunch last night.
