Not sure if this should go under food discussion but after a lovely, but overindulgent, Bank Holiday weekend, I am in need of a healthy, foodie, liver detox! Does anyone know of any natural food products (ie not milk thistle tablets) that are good for liver function? Going to shop til I drop and treat my liver to some much needed TLC!!! The rest of me might benefit as well. And, please, feel free to let me know I'm not the only one in need of this particular remedy,
Thanks, xx

Yes.
Whole, natural, unprocessed foods* and lots of water and/or tea. That should do it.
*Fruit, natural beans (plain, not stuff like baked beans), lots of vegetables especially dark leafy ones like chard, spinach, kale, collards, etc. Saute up some greens & place on a bed of brown rice. Cubed, sauteed tofu adds a nice touch of protein.
And just curious, why are you focusing just on the liver, instead of a whole body...or the pancreas or stomach etc?

Only because I overindulged and feel sluggish. The whole body needs nourishing as well but I worry about the liver most because alcoholism runs in my family and I have always had a bit of an obsession with avoiding the fate of some members of my family! It makes me not want to drink so when I do, I tend to panic a bit. I'm just a bit quirky I guess!!

Beets, dandelion greens, and artichokes are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Not to stray too far off topic, but the above sentence being right above your signature made me laugh a little...:p

As mentioned above. Dandelion salads, Dandelion smoothies, Dandelion tea!
Liver detox drops added to water.
Lecithin granules in smoothies.
Cabbage, brussel sprouts.
Tumeric.
Good luck!

I hear that ordinary, non-decaffeinated coffee done through an enema is one of the best ways to help your liver.

Yerba Mate enemas is what I was told. Yerba mate is fantastic to drink as well, an all around tea and coffee alternative. Once you develop a taste for it you cant go back. When I feel sluggish I do a raw foods fast for about 3 days. The first day I will feel like crap and then It's like a huge rush.
