Anyone interested in doing a candy/snacky things exchange? Someone posted that they don't sell Terra Nostra's chocolate in Canada, and I thought, well jeez, I can mail it to ya :)

So, anyone interested in doing an exchange? I've seen a bunch of others do it. All you do really is swap addresses with someone that doesn't live in your area, and send them a box of goodies they can't typically get. I'd be down.

Let's say, 20 dollar budget? Er, american dollar, not including shipping?

I guess, post if you're interested and what you'd like or if there's something you really want, and if you're allergic to anything, then claim someone as your swapper, and then you can PM addresses? If that sounds ok?

Like, I'm allergic to all nuts and bananas and pears, so I'd like delicious things without those ingredients :) I'm in New York, so I can send any sort of chocolate really, including Terra Nostra's rice milk chocolates (they have nuts in them) and an assortment of baked things from my natural food stores.

Or if you guys don't like this idea, that's ok too :) I'll understand, I know I'm weird lol.

I read this as "Snarky Vegan Exchange". I thought it would be a thread full of tongue-in-cheek, sarcastic little jibes.

This is a fantastic idea, and I'd love to join in, but I am hopeless in terms of remembering to post stuff off so I might dib out. Good luck with getting a good exchange going, though, I've done it before and it has been great.

OMG that would be so much fun!

Do you think we should "claim" our swappers? I've done it before and what we did was we all e-mailed our entries to the organizer, who then wrote names on a paper physically and drew them out of a hat, and then would forward the PM with info to the person who was getting the gift.

I'll totally organize if people want it that way, if not picking is ok too. I'm just afraid someone might get left out? *shrug* Anyway, I'm in. :)

Let's make the "open" date June 1st--so you know how long beforehand you should get it in the mail. Of course I'd try to get Europeans get each other, americans each other, etc. For shipping expense purposes.

This shall be fun. :)

Oh, and maybe we shouldnt say exactly what we want, or else some might just get you exactly that and no surprises. I think good questions to answer are:

Location (Country, State, City (Optional)):
Allergies?:
Severe Dislikes:
3 Favourite Foods/Flavors:

I dunno - getting overseas food is so much more fun. You get things that are just not accessible where you live. If it was just Aussie food I would be a whole lot less interested. You want stuff you would not/could not normally buy yourself. When I did do this I got a whole bunch of fantastic Dutch stuff, it was great. I sent Aussie food that the person would never be able to have, too. That's half the fun of it.

OK, I'll be into this but only if I can swap with someone who is not Aussie. I want to discover new foods. Maybe even Tings. I've never eaten a Ting.

good point!

I just know with my exchange people were getting really upset cus the shipping would be more than half the budget. Maybe just a bigger budget?

Hhmm... add an option for where you are willing to ship to? Maybe that would be making it too complicated....

id be up for this, as long as the open date stays around then! I have to be out of this house by July 1st so will be moving home Juneish so wouldnt want to not get my snack!

I dont think postage will be that expensive depending on what youre posting. A bar of chocolate/packet of crisps in a box wont come to that much!!!

Of course I'd not want someone in England. our food is BORING, haha. Dunno what I'd send either

Im like Kiz though and a bit lame at actually posting things, haha. Id force myself to though!!

I AM SO IN!
I am in Canada, and would be willing to ship anywhere.
Also, I don't think our budget should include shipping. I think that if we're willing to participate, we should be willing to pay the shipping - whatever the price may be.
I think a 20 $USD budget (+ shipping) is a good number.. but if some people find that to be too much, I am flexible.

This is so exciting!

can i suggest that people check shipping costs for where they'll be mailing to before they shop for their goodies? i sent $20 canadian of chocolate to the uk recently, and it cost me about $60 to mail it, cos of the weight- i could have done it for less, but it would have meant a 3 month wait for the recipiant. i'd not want anyone to get a suprise at the post office like i did. :)

Yeah--I don't mind paying shipping up to like, 10 bucks, but we're shipping perishables (ie we cant let it take 4 years) that could be quite heavy. (Sure, if its one chocolate bar its not, but with 20 bucks I can get a good bit of stuff/bake a lot...)

I'd like someone in NA, preferably canada. (I'd also be nervous about sending food over the border.. though I hear people dont seem to have issues with this but..)

ED, you're so full of wonderful ideas :) It would be awesome if you organized it. I'm absolutely terrible at organizing, I lose everything.

I'm not sure what to do about the shipping. 60 dollar shipping is out of control. I wouldn't say you have to overnight it, but yeah, it can't take 3 months heh. I've never mailed anything overseas before, if shipping is going to be out of control, perhaps we can come up with a good way to send lots of deliciousness, but also keep the shipping in control? Like, don't send 20 worth solids, maybe some lighter things and some heavier things? 50 50?

I's sooo excited. I don't care who I get. Perhaps, when we get the details down start a new thread for the signups, then our lovely ED can work her magic and set us off shopping??

Sure, I'll do that no problem. Nykoelle, if you could link the new thread in your origional post, and then ask a mod to close this one, we'll get on our way. :)

PS You really didnt need to call me lovely and wonderful so many times, but I wont say I didnt like it. ;)

Re the shipping, I fully agree. I've sent 20 to 30 dollar gifts to the USA and the shipping was between 40 and 60 dollars.

That said, I would love to receive something from the US or UK where there seems to be a lot of awesome products. Also I would be more than willing to ship to those areas even if it does cost me a lot.

I'd SOOO ship you a Ting. Well, a BAG of Tings. You can't eat just one Ting anyway.

They are these puffed cheesy snacky things (sold in America, not Australia, sadly) like the American snack Cheetos if you're familier with those?, only VEGAN, and better....

Mmmmmm . . . Tings.

Sounds interesting. Maybe I should go read the rest of the thread. I got sidetracked at the mention of Tings. :p

I'd ship you some, too, Kiz if I knew it wouldn't cost $60 to get them there. That's the least I can do for God. :p

So..... what does Australia have that I would trade Tings for? Salty, crunchy, snacky, cracker things.... Do you have the Marmite-flavored potato chips? I'll have to think about this...

Wolfie

I'll trade 'em for a kangaroo! I think 'roos are cute.

We have vegemite flavoured crackers, but I have no idea if they are vegan. I have found vegan salt and vinegar chips/crisps though.

I realise you are probably talking to Kiz, not me. But I can be ruthless where snacks are concerned. :p
