I’m going to New York at the beginning of November for the New York marathon. I’ve never been before so I will be a complete tourist, any suggestions about places to eat, things to see and do would be welcome. Thanks!

New York, as in New York City, is a vegan's best friend. The village has falafel all night. There are a huge number of restaurants to try too. My favorite is Village Natural between 6th and 7th on Greenwich in West Village. They have organic wine and the most delicious curry dish. I hear good things about Zen Palate as well, though I've never been there.

Things to do? Well, there's always something going on. You could check out any number of museums as well as Bryant park and central park and times square. Just walking around is enough really, given all the sights you'll go by just doing that. You could go see the statue of liberty of course, I've never seen it so I don't know what the crowds would be like. The Manhattan public library is amazing.

Hope I didn't ramble too much :)

Wow, that course is insane! But what fun! I think you'll get an idea of what neighborhoods are interesting to you, from running the course.

Learn the subway system-- it's easy and cheap and fast. I don't know what you're into, but I tend to like museums and hang-outs. Major museums run the length of Central Park's east side; the natural history museum is across the park on the west side.) The Lower East Side has several vegan businesses and a tenement museum. Washington Square and Union Square are fun hang-outs.

It's touristy, but the Grey Line double-decker bus is a great way to see the city for the first time. You get all of your "must see's" (Empire State building, Flatiron building, etc.) taken care of, and you can get off and walk around and then get back on later.
