I am personally a big fan of the Candle Cafe and Zen Palate. There used to be one, believe it was called vegetarian heaven... But it closed down. What other places do you know... and any good ones in Westchester?

I like Angelica Kitchen, Gobo, Pukk (vegetarian Thai), Curly's Vegetarian Diner and Kate's Joint. I miss Zen Palate Union Square!
Any suggestions from anyone else?

Hmm for fancy it would have to be Candle 79 and the Vegan Panini over at 'snice never fails. They also have this amazing roasted brussel sprouts salad which isn't available everyday but if they have it, order it!

Candle Cafe, hands down. Although Zen Palate is good, and I also enjoyed... what's the name of the Asian place in the theater district that has a full vegetarian menu and a full omni menu? I like that, too, but Candle Cafe was pure greatness. Maybe it helped that I walked more than 20 blocks to get there and was extremely hungry by the time I got there.

I can't believe I'm so close to NYC and I never get there...well, I can actually...I just never have anyone to go there with. HOWEVER, as soon as it warms up a bit, my friend from work has showed interest in taking the train down, maybe after work one night, and I will finally get to eat in a real vegan/vegetarian restaurant! Looks like Candle Cafe will be my first choice. I can't wait!!
If anyone knows of any good restaurants in Westchester (or Putnam/Danbury) I want to know about it...there is nothing anywhere near me at the moment. The one place that opened up two years ago that was even remotely veggie friendly, just closed. And it was right across from where I work, too. :(

Westchester used to have Green Symphony in Port Chester though it closed down before I moved upstate :( It was so awesome. It's since relocated somewhere out on Long Island but it's at least an hour and a half from my parents' house in Westchester and I'm not using a half tank of gas to get dinner.
We should get together in Westchester sometime when I'm visiting home :P

Green Symphony!!! Amazing. I think there was one by cross county... The food is still very good at the new one, my brother drives out every so often.

Vegetarian's Paradise 2. No Doubt.
Zen Burger is alright, it's nice to have a fast food experience which is totally veg*an.

I would have to say Candle Cafe.
Skylark, the place we went to in the theater district was called Zenith.
Remember pounding that bottle of wine?

I've only been to NYC a few times, but I love Zen Palate, I've been there every time I've returned.

I've passed Candle Cafe a few times and it looks intriguing. I have to head into Manhattan sometime this summer and get a bite.
Some other good ones, not in Manhattan, but in Brooklyn that I've been to are Vegetarian Palate and VeggieCastle.

Oh my gosh. OK so this isn't a vegetarian restaurant per se, but everyone who is going to be in the Fort Greene/Park Slope area of Brooklyn any time soon HAS to check out Brawta Caribbean Cafe. I had the most amazing jerk tofu there last night served with rice and beans and salad. It was seriously the best meal I have had in a restaurant in weeks, maybe months and we eat out a LOT. I stuffed myself silly.
Brawta was recommended to us by our landlord, a native of Jamaica. It's at 347 Atlantic Ave. http://www.brawtacafe.com/ Oh and it's BYOB, there's a convenience store across the street if you'd like to pick up some Red Stripe to go with your food. :pibo:

A lot of us like the same restaurants! I love Curly's Lunch, Red Bamboo, Foodswings (when I really crave some fast food!), Quantum Leap, and recently I've fallen in love with Wild Ginger in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

My wife & I were in NYC over the weekend for a wedding and were fortunate enough to eat at Candle 79.
I was in heaven! Where I come from (Northern NY), I am lucky to have 1 item on the menu that I can eat. I was so taken with all of the selections that it took me a while to finally pick (seitan chimichurris appetizer for the tabkle, potato & leek soup appetizer for me and for my main dish a seitan concoction that was out of this world).
We also happened to be sitting next a lady whom I later discovered founded Beam Green.
We are busy planning our next trip to NYC (and the one after that).

Wild Ginger on Broome St in Soho is pretty good, IMHO.
I like Curley's Lunch on 14th St. but it's kinda like the greasy spoon of veggie restaurants. I particularly like their crabfakes.

I don't live in the city anymore but I have wonderful dreams about Candle Cafe's tofu club. I make it at home now but it's not the same as going there. I also love Zen Palate. Their sweet and sour sensation is amazing.
