Yesterday I ordered a Sigg water bottle (http://www.mysigg.com/). They are stainless steel bottles that have supposedly been tested to be carcinogenic free. Plastic water bottles leech carcinogens into your drink, or so I've heard. Anyways, does anyone here have one? Are you happy with it?
They look pretty cool.

I think they're coated aluminum?
The necks are kind of small and it seems like they would be hard to clean really well.

You're right: 'Extruded from a single piece of aluminum, our innovative SIGG (http://www.mysigg.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=3)Lifestyle Water Bottles is surprisingly rugged, crack-resistant and completely reusable and recyclable.'

I reckon just about every Swiss person has a SIGG water bottle!
In fact, I cannot imagine how anyone can live WITHOUT a SIGG water bottle. Mine is a very precious companion and they last forever. The one I use is about 10 years old now.
(No, I do not have shares with the company.)
However, I would not go so far as to say that drinking from aluminium is not unhealthy. I think drinking from glass is probably the safest .

I've got a SIGG water bottle, and it's served me well so far. It's not that hard to clean, and it holds a large amount of water (I'm a bit of a water fiend - and I felt guilty wasting all that plastic). It's very good for taking on hikes and at work/uni. No funny smells or anything. I'm sure you'll enjoy yours.

I think you can also buy a brush for it around 10 what ever the currency is.

I just bought the largest size they had for $15.99 at Wegmans. The cleaning brushes were around 10 also.

I recently purchased the "harlekin" model. The bottles are really beautifully made and designed. It is aluminum with some kind of plastic liner. The instructions don't recommend using dishwashers, so your best bet is to buy the brush (which is soft and intended not to scratch the lining like harder bristles would). So far, I've simply rinsed it out with soap and warm water.

i have one, its flipping great. ok, i lied, i actually have 3 of them. i managed to finally get a tiny dent in one, but its still perfectly fine, and one dent out of about a squillion drops onto the floor isn't bad at all. it does the job, and i feel much happier with it than with plastic.
i also bought an ikea ice 'cube' tray- one of those rubbery ones- that makes ice rods instead of cubes, and a tray that makes teeny baby ice cubes. these are great for summer cos you can't really freeze the bottle or get normal sized ice cubes into it.
i got mine from http://www.reusablebags.com on closeout- they have deals on them quite a bit, from what i've seen.

Cool, glad you guys liked it! I noticed in Ani Phyo's raw book she has a pic of her drinking out of one and she talks about it a bit.
I might need to get that cleaning brush...I'll wait and see!

I'm bumping this thread because I've been considering buying one or two Sigg reusable metal bottles. They have them in various sizes, colors and patterns in Whole Foods, and last time I was there I looked at them. Something told me to unscrew the tops and sniff inside, however, and each time I did that (I did that with several different ones), I detected a faint, sour, chemical/metallic type smell inside. I didn't open a single one that didn't have that smell. I decided not to buy them then, but I was wondering if anyone else ever detected the same thing with their metal water bottles, or am I crazy?
Should I buy them anyway and wash them out first? I don't want weird tasting drinking water. I'd rather use metal than buy reusable plastic bottles because I'm not entirely trusting of plastic, which is also why I'd like to stop buying bottled water and switch to reusable bottles, however, see my problem above.
Help. :)

why wouldn't you wash it out first? they also have brushes designed to fit into the opening and they bend, too.
i ordered mine direct from the site and never noticed a smell.

$26!!! For a bottle and a brush!!! And try as I might, there's not way I'm not losing that think within a year. I'm inevitably leaving it behind in some classroom, library, or peeler joint. :p

Yeah I have been noticing 'em too. Perhaps when I lose my Nalgene (ugh. that's so five minutes ago) I'll get one for campus/office.
Stupid yuppie trends making me want to be/look/pose like I'm cool.

I got mine a month ago and I love it! I'm in colleg and it holds alot so I can carry it around during class, and I refill it in the water fountains. It's worked great, no funny smell from mine.

I still use mine! The whole thing about the plastic and carcinogens isn't true I found out...but it's still better to use these bottles!

Heh. Now you have to post about the "not true" bit. The evidence reported in the press lately seems to be stacking up *against* plastic bottles.
Thanks, Amy, for bumping this post. I've been looking for a bottle for IS and myself, and for the munchkin I work with.
I wonder what the "secret coating" that they refer to on the site is.

I'd like to get one, but they are so expensive and I don't have a job so it will be a while before I save enough to get one.

I have one and I like it. My bf got us each one when all the stuff about plastic was in the news--true or not, it can't hurt to be drinking out of the Sigg bottles (or at least as far as we know!) Plus, mine is a darker pink with a pretty design on it :) I keep it at work for the most part.
