CBS’ Big Brother is gearing up for another summer series and looking to cast a new house guest who is an animal rights activist. This is an excellent opportunity to reach viewers about very serious issues concerning animals while having some fun along the way. If you are between the ages of 21 and 50, are not afraid to speak up for your beliefs, [handle stress well,] and want a chance to win a half-million dollars, you may be the perfect contestant for this show.
Big Brother’s deadline to find an animal rights activist is April 1. There will be open casting calls in Portland, New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Charleston, Tampa, Salt Lake City, Minneapolis, Chicago, Louisville, Memphis, Des Moines, New Orleans, Boston, and Phoenix.
The show will be filmed in Los Angeles from July through September. House guests will live in the house for three months and receive a $600/week stipend.
To apply, simply send your name, age, city, and profession and information about yourself to bigbrothercasting@gmail.com.

This would be horrible for the AR movement! You know the only reason why they want an activist is to make fun of them.

Bull****. :p
They'll probably pick the most annoying activist they can find to manipulate the rest of the housemates into getting pissed off and defensive.
Then they'll probably be a big argument full of stupid **** omni's say, which will result in the activist getting voted off, and then everyone watching at home will have their negative views about veg*ns reinforced.
Good times. :)

Wow, what a load of bull. Of course CBS wants to exploit the personality of whoever takes this role. When they do auditions for this role they will pick the most obnoxious person they can find to fuel the general public's perception of activists.

this reminds me of that episode on "wife swap" or whatever that show is - the weird raw vegan woman and her veg*n family vs. the hunting wife and her family. they pick the most extreme that they can to just give the lot of us a bad name.

I agree, they only want someone they can use for ratings. This will give all AR followers a bad name and make them look like wackos. Way to help the movement! Sheesh.

I was coming on here to rant about how they're going to pick the craziest, most annoying freak of an activist that will keep everyone in heated arguments...
...and, they'll probably pick someone without very good debating skills.
This really would hurt people's impression of AR/Veg people...
UNLESS one of you guys applies, acting like you're exactly what they want (crazy, loud, arms flailing about, food police, vegan police, etc...) and then once you're on the show turn it around and have nice rational discussions with the other members...and totally respect their ideas and notions...and cook up some yummy vegan nom-noms!

Wow, this is going to be a real disgrace. I've never watched this show, but do they tend to bring in really intolerant people from various cultures/groups and such to be targeted, alienated and made fools of? I definitely don't like the sound of this!
While the above suggestion would probably be the only way to avoid this becoming a trainwreck for animal rights I have a feeling they'll do significant background checks; you can be pretty sure that the really hardcore militant animal rights person they pick has been arrested a few times for protests gone too far, or maybe breaking into a lab. I think they'll bring in someone just shy of wanting to bomb the house for having meat/leather in it.

The whole point of big brother is to assemble a human zoo. The stranger the people they can get, the viewers they will get.
It's not enough to have mere specimens though. One of the downsides of a zoo is that they don't seem to answer the question on everyone's lips: "Who would win in a fight between a rhinoceros and a polar bear?"
The question won't be answered in a human zoo either, but if they can pit an animal rights activist against a redneck, then the ensuing fight will almost be as good as watching a polar bear and a rhinoceros take each other on.
The solution: Do not watch big brother.

You can bet that any activist who pulled a bait and switch would promptly be placed in a situation designed to create a conflict.
I would guess that the activist would get called on to complete a challenge with consequences for the whole house and the challenge would (of course) involve some moral conundrum like killing a chicken or eating hot dogs.
Anyone got other suggestions as to what might happen?
I don't watch the show, but I know that those producers are masters of creating conflict.

I just seen that yesturday! (Assuming it's the same episode, that is) The weird (mean) vegan lady looked like she was going to choke that poor little dog when he peed on the floor.
And, then, after lecturing these strangers on their views (I think there's a right way and a wrong way to open up someone mind to veg*nism, she was wrong..) she EATS ALLIGATOR!!! I was going to start a thread on it, actually, but never got around to it.
/off topic.
I don't think it would be good for animal rights at all.

I'll bet they'll probably have the BB house raise "food" animals, such as chickens, and then they'll slaughter the animals and salivate over the meat while the activist cries/screams/locks self in bathroom/whatever.
Either that, or they'll have them visit some animal exploitation place such as a cattle ranch, and the BB team will have to complete a "challenge" that involves doing something cruel to an animal, while the activist shows s/he's "not a team player" by crying/screaming/etc.
Either way, neither animals nor activists are going to win.

 i bet they'll pick the biggest loonie they come across- makes for better tv ratings- more sensationalism, more arguments in the house, more debates amongst veiwers, more media interest, more 'watchability', etc. i doubt its worth applying if you're not completely in orbit, or prepared to pretend you are.

Huh, so another thread on this? Well, I'll repeat that I'm fairly sure that picking a fake won't happen. There are plenty of AR activists out there who've been arrested for "going too far"... I'm sure they'll find someone with a record so they can be sure the person is for real, and will go to the lengths they're hoping for.

i didn't mean to suggest that someone who wasn't sincere would be chosen- just that um... i have a feeling it'll be someone who is very sincere, very black and white in their veiwpoints, and very unafraid to be vocal about it- someone with perhaps a bit of an amateur dramatics streak too.
with this in mind, i'd expect to see someone who was more likely to upturn and empty out freezers full of steaks and to burst into loud angry tears while expressing themselves exuberantly about their feelings on murder and burying burgers in the garden and then hold a little burial cermony and praying to a pagan god over them, as aposed to someone likely to sit there calmly and rationally on the couch, making their point maturely and articulately, and leading by quiet dignified example.
.... not that i'll actually see anyone, cos i don't watch big brother. :)
anyway, it'd be disapointing if whoever they choose sets things back for the rest of us by acting like a total nut-job infront of all those impressionable tv watching folks out there in veiwer-land.
