I can't believe what I'm seeing.

Personally, I love the show America's Next Top Model. Usually I have no problem with the show, but today's new episode made me want to vomit. As some of you may know, in ANTM they sometimes pose with, well, weird things. This time, though, they took it too far. They posed with a thing rather than a person. And what was that thing? You guessed it.

Raw meat.

I was horrified to see them arrive at a meat-packing place and even more horrified to see that they had to pose with these dead bodies. What had me more shocked was that no one really cared. Apparently none of them are even close to being vegetarian. What /great/ role models they are, huh?

Every other scene was of the bloody frozen meat, hanging from hooks, acting as clothes for the models. I wish there was some way to contact the person who came up with the bright idea of using flesh as an accessory.

What do you think of this?

That sounds like a PETA commercial. :p Just another good reason why it's good to be veggie.

I saw that episode tonight and I thought it was a gross especially the girls that had to wear meat underware and bottoms. I'm surprised not one of them was a vegetarian. Not one person objected to it to the photographer or Jay either or maybe they did and the edited out but I doubt it.

It's too unfashionable to object to anything offensive in the fashion world.

This is the same industry that brought you heroin chic so unfortunately, you wont find too many people with ethics. It's about being controversial, getting noticed and making money at all costs.

Even if the models were to be uncomfortable with anything they ask them to do, you can be sure as hell they're not going to say anything about it because firstly, they don't want to jeopardize their chance of winning, and secondly, a lot of them are intimidated by the people they're working with.

I saw it as well, and was also surprised to see the lack of girls saying they wouldnt do it. You couldnt pay me enough money to have done such a thing. Absolutely disgusting!

I know! I was absolutely appalled that no one cared. I mean, the most I heard was a few saying "ew" because "they didn't want it one their skin." What, so you can't have it on your skin but you can put it in your mouth? /Real/ smart idea.

Yep, that was partially the reason it was done and the girls were told about the irony of the shoot. They were shooting with meat and they would soon be treated the same way if they made in the business. VILE!!

My thoughts EXACTLY!!

Well.. there are a lot of things I like to eat that I wouldn't wear. :p The idea of wearing a mashed potato bikini is pretty gross to me.. but I'll eat them. :p

why would they have a problem with posing with dead meat? wouldnt that just make them big fat hypocrites for caring?

I saw a glimpse of that episode and was intruiged by all the symbolism too (where's my )

I just hold out hope that somewhere, someone watching that was disgusted and will reconsider eating meat.

Exactly. And not only that, but the fashion industry has models wearing leather, fur, wool, silk, and other animal parts and pieces so why is this so beyond the pale? They have celebs and models donning a 'milk moustashe' for the dairy industry and wearing skins for the fur industry. So why can't the beef industry get a little fashion action too? What's one more atrocity in an industry of crap?

I mean, we obviously have problems with the wearing of dead, eviscerated animal parts because we object to it all. But wearing the meat of an animal is no more gross than wearing the hide of one, in terms of exploitation and wrongness.

That being said, as one of those that does care, I changed the channel during that photoshoot.

I was thinking of that too as I watched but then it made me even madder that they were using the actual meat they could be selling as food. Now there's just going to be another cow killed because the meat someone could have taken home to eat was worn by a bunch of models and will just be thrown away to rot :(
