We have a thread for books you're reading, how about people's musical tendencies?

I sing, for an undetermined amount of years as I haven't been counting
5th year of clarinet
10th year of (classical, boring) piano

i played guitar and cello when i was kid. cello was my very first love and i want to play again someday. the cello was rented and then we moved and i stopped playing.

i have a yamaha portable grand dgx500 (http://www.yamaha.com/yamahavgn/CDA/ContentDetail/ModelSeriesDetail/0,,CNTID%25253D2712%252526CTID%25253D,00.html) and i learned some songs from on there, but i think i'd really benefit from having a teacher.

i've actually been trying for a while to find a cello teacher but there's nothing around here. i really, really want to get one and play again.

i wouldn't mind learning the drums, either. hand drums, especially. steel drums.

I've been singing since I was a little kid, Not really doing anything with it, Just singing at my will. I also love the piano. I'm not 'super good' I can play pretty well, Though. I'd also really love to learn the violin.

I love music. I wish I had the insturments myself. I would love to be able to play everyday. I'd also love to be schooled in the art of them. (take lessons) All I have is an outdated keyboard i've had since I was a little kid. It doesn't make for very "aww inspiring" music.

I studied classical violin seriously for about 20 years, and teach violin. A few years ago I got a 5-string Viper (electric) violin, which has completely changed everything! I have performed in Amsterdam, the UK and will be in Mexico on Halloween!!

Pics of the Viper, and soundfiles are on my site: www.cyndeeleerule.com

(Free gig in Raritan, NJ next week too)

I played alto saxophone in middle school and high school. I was extremely good, first chair, section leader during marching season, all of that. I haven't played since I came to college, though, which I regret. I should pick the thing back up again over spring break.

a can sort of play the melodian, guitar, violin& piano to some extent, well before I messed up my right elbow.......not to a very high standard though.

I picked up the melodian when I was around 9 and played occasionally in a morris team.

I love singing, but I'll never be really good at it. I was heavily involved in the school choir from seventh through twelfth grades and in my church choir for around the same period of time. I can hold a tune pretty well in a group but I have little to no sense of rhythm or pitch alone, even with musical accompaniment (every year I'd enter the solo and ensemble contest and every year the judge would write something like "very good for a beginning music student"). I didn't join the choir in college for this reason, even though I miss it.

I have a recorder and a keyboard, but I guess I just don't have an ear for making music. I can play if I memorize the finger positions to a particular song, but it takes weeks of going over it again and again and I'm still so busy trying to hit the right note that I never quite get the tempo.

Apparently this thread hit a sore spot. :) If I could pick any one thing to be really good at (without giving up my current talents) it would be singing. Oh well, at least I have a lot of fun being a permanent amateur.

DEFINITELY do it!! I have to say: I didn't play my violin for 10 years, and now, music is my full-time career! :sheep::nigel::sheep::nigel:

I am not implying that music would be your career, but you can certainly enjoy playing again, and even join some kind of ensemble or band!

I play keys (organ mostly), and now back into playing guitar now that I have good gear again :) Lately I try to play guitar for a couple hours every day, or every other day. The keyboard I've been playing a couple times a week for less than a hour. I just don't seem to do a very good job of balancing the time out so I'm not neglecting one.
