A VB meetup organized by your Mod Squad, but open to anybody on the board willing and able to join us.
Destination 2008: Seattle
Dates: Thursday, August 14th through Sunday, August 17th
Where would we stay? Last year, we stayed at a hostel on downtown Boston. Prices were good (and cheap), experiences were pleasant. (Except for when Skylark - my roomie - and I ran out of toilet paper, I asked somebody at the front desk for more, and we didn't get it. I had to go down around midnight to ask for it again). Eh, just a mere blip in the whole thing. So, it was suggested that in Seattle, we stay at The Green Tortoise. (http://www.greentortoise.net/)
I would like to know how many people are interested in joining us. Raise your hands, please! Thank you! :sunny:

*Raises Hand* Ooh! Me, me! I would LOVE to go!! I'll probably only be able to make it from Friday night till Sunday afternoon. I'm moving to Minneapolis in July and will be starting a new job so I won't want to ask for any time off so soon.

Correction: The dates decided on did not actually include the 14th. I automatically included it without thinking because in Boston we did Friday and Saturday, with Thursday and Sunday being mainly traveling to-and-from days. If it's easier to travel to Seattle on Thursday, then Thursday it is. If it's easier to travel to Seattle on Friday, then Friday it is. If you need to leave on Sunday, you will make us very unhappy, :brood: but so be it.

AWESOME!! I just checked out plane tickets and it looks like I can get there and back for less than 300 bucks!! Woot! Woot!

Wow, if I bought tickets now, I could do it for about $350. I was expecting a lot more. Maybe that's because I was just researching international flight fares for a different trip. :p

I'd love to go, but it's too far. Hope you all have a blast!

It sounds like fun but I just don't think I could afford it. I mean, $5 in gas is pretty steep. :D

I will DEFINITELY be there! I'm planning on spending some time with my Mom, who lives a couple of hours from Seattle, maybe a day or two in Tacoma, and a few days in Victoria BC with some friends. I expect I'll be in Seattle from Thursday to Sunday.
I did some checking, and the Green Tortoise is THE place to stay!! I've ridden their seriously cool bus line before, and if the Hostel is anything like it (and it totally seems to be), then we MUST try to all stay there. If we get enough commitments from people, we could get our own shared 7-bed room (or two?).

Ah crap. Maybe next year. Airfare is $400ish, and that's the week I start school and something tells me that going out of state instead of to class is not going to work. :(

Unfortunately, I won't be attending this year. Poverty has got the best of me.

Damn, the Mariner's are playing out of town that weekend.
That strongly affects my decision, but I'm not canceling it out altogether yet.

HEY! Who said I was going?
Oh, wait... :D
Seriously I think the "room-for-7" deal at Green Tortoise would be a hoot, but I snore in a serious way... no one would get any sleep! (Wait, are we actually going to sleep?)

will there be any activities planned?
And due to my snoring (and anti social behavior) I will need to find some place else to stay. Plus I am going to stay for a full week.

Randy darling, we're going to be up 'till all hours visiting... right? So no one's going to have time to snore!
(No, actually since Froggy doesn't seem phased by snoring, he and I will probably get a room... but um... just for the two of us...)
We may not stay all the nights simply because it seems silly when I don't live that far away, but I definitely want to hang out with everyone 'till all odd hours PART of the time!
So what does everyone want to do? Restaurants on your "must visit" list? Anything? I don't want to be the planner especially 'cause I know nothing about the city's clubs and nightlife and such... but there's a few restaurants, etc, that I know pretty well.
Oh this is so exciting I may pee my pants.
