Ok I've decided to ditch massage for a while for fitness. For a while circumstances were making choices because I couldn't make up my mind. I binged...I skipped massages that I said I would attend due to exhaustion, then I missed weight lifting therefore wasting money.

In the future I'm going take turns..Fitness for one week, then a week of massage.
It's like when you need more money then you have...Compromises must be made.
I wish there were enough hours in a day to do both of them. I wish fitness was not another factor that causes so much fatigue. It's good fatigue unlike getting sick...Still it takes time for those naps and extra sleeping.

I'm sure many are not doing fitness because it's so time consuming.

Not too sure why you equal massage with physical fitness?
Why not do both in the same week (i.e. 4 days of exercise with 1 massage a week), they will compliment eachother better that way.
What type of massage are you regularly getting? is it physical therapy based or relaxation?

She's talking about being a masseuse, not having massages.

The perception of "it's too much time" is the #1 reason cited by people when they give excuses for not working out. The trick is to be honest with ourselves and give unflinching attention to the activities that take our free time away.

having to spend time recuperating from working out sounds like it is something she needs to factor in as well. its not as simple as just exercising and getting 6 hours of sleep, it seems that sometimes a workout needs to be followed by a total day of rest.

Yes, the working out itself doesn't take so much time, it's being tired and hungry for a long time afterwards that makes it time consuming. I tend to call it the fitness hangover. I'd go hiking and then fall asleep afterwards. So it's not an excuse, it's true.
Maybe more for some people then others.

Will you be able to make any progress working out every other week? I've heard that 7-10 days not working out is good every now and then, but I wonder about working out only every other week.

Then again, maybe your body could use the time off. People are different. And if you're giving people massages, that might be exercise too.

If you're having to take time to recover, is it possible that you're working out too hard?? You should come out of a workout feeling positive and energised.... not completely stuffed!!! Maybe pick an excercise that's a little lower in intensity, one that makes you feel good afterwards. Then slowly pick up the intensity as your body becomes fitter...

Also, taking in some good quality carbs and protein straight after the workout will really help your body in the recovery. Eat straight away, don't wait hours afterwards...
